55th Communications Regiment (Ukraine)
The 55th Separate Communications Regiment (A1671) is a regiment level signal and communication unit of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, operationally under the command of Operational Command West. It was established on 5 July 1941 as part of the Soviet union's 13th army and took part in the Second World War. Then in 1991, it swore allegiance to Ukraine being the first unit to do so and has since 2014, taken part in both the War in Donbass and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. History The 55th separate regiment began its establishment process on 5 July 1941 on the basis of the 675th separate signal battalion in Kozaky, Oryol Oblast with Captain Iosif Ivanovich Grusha as its first commander. On 30 October 1941, after escaping the encirclement in Stara Huta, Shostka Raion, Stara Huta area together with units of the 13th Army (Soviet Union), 13th Combined Arms Army, the 55th separate signal regiment completed its formation and started providing services on 2 November 1941. The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine () is the ministry of defence, ministry of the Government of Ukraine, Ukrainian government that oversees national defence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The head of the ministry is the List of Ministers of Defense (Ukraine), Minister of Defence. The President of Ukraine is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The ministry was established in Ukraine on 24 September 1991, one month after Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, Ukraine's declaration of independence resolution. The ministry was put in charge of all Soviet military forces reorganization on the territory of Ukrainian jurisdiction. In 1994, Ukraine voluntarily gave up all nuclear weapons. The ministry spent significant funds eliminating nuclear weapons, military bases and equipment to meet Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe requirements.
