54th Group Army
The 83rd Group Army (), Unit 31679, formerly the 54th Group Army, is a military formation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF). The 83rd Group Army is one of thirteen total group armies of the PLAGF, the largest echelon of ground forces in the People's Republic of China, and one of three assigned to the nation's Central Theater Command. History In 1952, the 45th Army Headquarter, the 134th Division and 135th Division merged with the 130th Division of the 44th Army, reorganized into the 54th Army. Then it participated in the Korean War. In 1959, it participated in Tibet insurgency operations. In 1962, it participated in the Sino-Indian War of 1962, and the 130th Division defeated the 11th Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army in the Battle of Walong. Xiao Ke
Xiao Ke (; July 14, 1907 – October 24, 2008) was a general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, former vice chairman of the CPPCC, as well as principal of the University of Military and Politics. Biography Early life Xiao was born in Jiahe County, Hunan Province of China. He joined the National Revolutionary Army and participated the Northern Expedition in 1926. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1927 and fought in Nanchang Uprising. He went to Jinggangshan and was recruited to the Red Fourth Army. War time Between 1930 and 1933, he was appointed first to command of the Red Army's Fifth Division, then its Eighth Army, and later Sixth Army Group, fighting in many battles resisting the Nationalist's Encirclement Campaigns. The People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF), also referred to as the PLA Army, is the army, land-based service branch of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and also its largest and oldest branch. A military unit cover designator (MUCD, , ) is a unique five-digit number used by the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China to externally identify military units. MUCDs are used externally to protect the identity of units, while a true unit designator (TUD, ) is used internally as they plainly identify the unit and its function. An example, a bomber aircraft regiment in the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) 8th Air Division may be known by its TUD, '22nd Air Regiment', or by its MUCD, 'Unit 95183'.
