54th Division (Spain)
The 54th Division was one of the divisions of the People's Army of the Republic that were organized during the Spanish Civil War on the basis of the Mixed Brigades. It came to operate on the Levante front. History During 1937, on the Northern Front there had already been a division that used this numbering. In the spring of 1938, within the IX Army Corps, a division was created that was numbered "54". Its first commander-in-chief was Lieutenant Colonel Martín Calvo Calvo. It was made up of the newly created 180th, 181st and 182nd mixed brigades. Some time later it was sent to the Levante front, where it was included in the XIII Army Corps. It participated in the fighting in the Levante, resisting the nationalist offensive against Valencia. Nationalist Faction (Spanish Civil War)
The Nationalist faction ( es, Bando nacional) or Rebel faction ( es, Bando sublevado) was a major faction in the Spanish Civil War of 1936 to 1939. XIII Army Corps (German: ''XIII. Armeekorps'') was a corps of the German Army during World War II. Made up of several divisions, which varied from time to time, it was formed in Nuremberg on 1 October 1937. Soon after the general mobilisation of August, 1939 the corps was engaged in the Polish campaign. Made up of the 10th, 17th, and 221st Infantry, it was part of the 8th Army. After the decisive German victory at the Battle of the Bzura, the Corps was transferred to the 16th Army in the Trier area of western Germany. During the Invasion of France the following year the corps advanced to the River Meuse through Luxembourg in May, 1940. The 180th Mixed Brigade was a brigade of the People's Army of the Republic that fought in the Spanish Civil War. History The unit was created on April 30, 1938, on the Andalusia front, being assigned to the 54th Division (Spain), 54th Division of the IX Corps (Spain), IX Corps. Command fell to Francisco Fervenza Fernández, a veteran of the War in the North.
