Soviet Red Army
The Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, often shortened to the Red Army, was the army and air force of the Russian Soviet Republic and, from 1922, the Soviet Union. The army was established in January 1918 by a decree of the Council of People's Commissars to oppose the military forces of the new nation's adversaries during the Russian Civil War, especially the various groups collectively known as the White Army. Operation Barbarossa was the invasion of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany and several of its European Axis allies starting on Sunday, 22 June 1941, during World War II. 22nd Army (Soviet Union)
The 22nd Army () was a field army of the Red Army during World War II. The 22nd Army was formed in June 1941 after the German invasion of the Soviet Union and served through World War II until its disbandment in 1945. World War II Originally it was formed in June 1941 within the Red Army and it comprised 51st Rifle Corps ( 98th, 112th, and 153rd Rifle Divisions) and 62nd Rifle Corps ( 170th, 174th, and 186th Rifle Divisions), and several separate regiments, including the 336th and 545th Corps Artillery Regiments. 153rd Rifle Division (1940–1941)
The 153rd Rifle Division () was an infantry division of the Red Army during World War II, active from 1940 to 1941. For its actions in the Dukhovshchina offensive during the Battle of Smolensk (1941), Battle of Smolensk it became the 3rd Guards Rifle Division. History The 153rd Rifle Division was formed in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk in August 1940, under the command of Colonel Nikolai Gagen. The division included the 435th, 505th, and 666th Rifle Regiments, the 565th Light Artillery Regiment, the 581st Howitzer Artillery Regiment, and other smaller support units. Before June 1941, the division conducted training in the Kamyshlov camps, part of the Ural Military District. In the first half of June 1941 the division was relocated by rail across the Soviet Union to the city of Vitebsk, Belorussia, as part of the 62nd Rifle Corps of the 22nd Army (Soviet Union), 22nd Army.
