50 Kilometres Race Walk
The 50 kilometre race walk was an Olympic athletics event that first appeared in 1932 and made its final Olympic appearance in 2021. The racewalking event is competed as a road race. Athletes must always keep in contact with the ground and the supporting leg must remain straight until the raised leg passes it. 50 kilometres is approximately 31 miles. The 50 kilometres race walk was dropped from the Olympic program after the 2020 Tokyo Games in 2021 and was replaced by a mixed team race, the marathon race walk mixed relay in order to achieve gender equality. Matej Tóth
Matej Tóth (; born 10 February 1983) is a retired Slovak race walker. He won the 50 km walk World Championship in 2015, and became an Olympic champion in the same event in 2016. Career Tóth won the gold medal in the 50 km walk at the 2010 IAAF World Race Walking Cup held in Chihuahua, Mexico, finishing with the slowest winning time since 1993. He finished first at the 2015 World Championships, taking Slovakia's first ever gold at the championships and completing the course two minutes ahead of his nearest rival. Tóth finished first at the 2016 Olympic Games in 50 km walk with a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes and 58 seconds, winning the first Slovak Olympic medal in athletics since the country's independence in 1993. The men's 50 kilometres race walk at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held on 11 August on a route along The Mall and Constitution Hill. The event was marred by the disqualification of all three Russian athletes due to doping violations. Summary With 63 starters, there was a large pack at the start, Matej Tóth walking along the side barrier was the first to take the front. Masatora Kawano (川野 将虎, born 23 October 1998) is a Japanese race walker. Career Kawano represented Japan at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, finishing in 6th place in the 50 km walk and setting a season best. Kawano won a silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene in the 35 km walk with an Asian record time of 2:23:15. German Anatolyevich Skurygin (; September 15, 1963 – November 28, 2008) was a Russian race walker. He was born in Vutno. He originally won a gold medal at the 1999 World Championships, but later lost it due to doping. He was suspended from 1999 to 2001. Alex Schwazer, OMRI (born 26 December 1984), is an Italian race walker. He was the 2008 Olympic 50k walk champion. Just before the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was disqualified for two years for doping with EPO. He immediately admitted his guilt and retired. He subsequently decided to resume training with Sandro Donati, a prominent anti-doping advocate who was the one who had flagged him as suspicious to WADA in 2012. Their goal was to prove that it was possible to win even without doping. He qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics but was found positive to micro-doping with testosterone and disqualified for eight years.
