"5-1-5-0" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Dierks Bentley. It was released in April 2012 as the third single from his 2012 album ''Home''. The song was written by Bentley, Brett Beavers, and Jim Beavers. Background and writing Co-writer Jim Beavers told ''Taste of Country'' that the idea for "5-1-5-0" came about when Bentley and he were discussing Van Halen's album '' 5150''. Beavers said that he changed the pronunciation from "fifty-one-fifty" to "five-one-five-oh", and rhymed it with "somebody call the po-po" after seeing a police car. Content The title is a reference to the 5150 "involuntary psychiatric hold" in the ''California Welfare and Institutions Code''. In it, the narrator sings that his lover is making him "crazy". Jim Beavers is an American country music songwriter. He is also the brother of songwriter Brett Beavers. Early life and education Jim Beavers grew up in Garland and Jacksonville, Texas. His educational background includes a BBA from Baylor University and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. Beavers was a founding member of Sons of the Desert. Career Beavers moved to Nashville in 1991 to pursue a career on the business side of music. His work experience prior to songwriting includes stints as director of marketing for Capitol Records and Virgin Records, touring musician with Lee Ann Womack, and professor at Middle Tennessee State University. Frederick Dierks Bentley (; born November 20, 1975) is an American country music singer and songwriter. Bentley moved to Nashville in the late 90s to pursue a career in music, leading up to his releasing the self-funded and independent album Don't Leave Me in Love in 2001. In 2003, he signed to Capitol Nashville and released his eponymous debut album. Both it and its follow-up, 2005's '' Modern Day Drifter'', are certified Platinum in the United States, and his third album, 2006's '' Long Trip Alone'', is certified Gold. Brett Beavers (born in Waco, Texas) is an American country music songwriter and producer and a co-author of a book, ''Something Worth Leaving Behind''. Education and early career Beavers attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary education in 1985. He played bass guitar with Mack Abernathy for the next four years throughout the United States, working on his skills as a songwriter. He married and taught high school science in Tyler, Texas southeast of Dallas during a year off and moved to Nashville to join a band with Deryl Dodd. Shortly after arriving in Nashville, Beavers began touring with Martina McBride as a bass player and bandleader from 1992 to 1996.
