4th Canadian Armoured Brigade
The 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade was an armoured brigade of the Canadian Army during World War II. It was part of the 4th Canadian (Armoured) Division. Organization As of 1942 the 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade comprised: * 21st Armoured Regiment (The Governor General's Foot Guards) * 22nd Armoured Regiment (The Canadian Grenadier Guards) * 28th Armoured Regiment (The British Columbia Regiment) * 1st Battalion, The Lake Superior Regiment (Motor) And their supporting units, including: * 4th Canadian Brigade Company, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps; * 12 Canadian Field Ambulance Arriving in Normandy in July 1944, the brigade saw service in the battles that took the Canadians from Caen to Falaise (and the Falaise Pocket). The Canadian Army (french: Armée canadienne) is the command (military formation), command responsible for the operational readiness of the conventional ground forces of the Canadian Armed Forces. Robert Moncel
Robert William Moncel, (April 9, 1917 – December 10, 2007) was a Canadian army officer. Moncel was Lieutenant-General of the Canadian Army and former Vice Chief of the Defence Staff. He was the youngest general officer in the Canadian Army when promoted to Brigadier on August 17, 1944, at the age of 27. Early life Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was educated at Selwyn House School, Bishop's College School and McGill University. He served as an officer with the Victoria Rifles of Canada. World War II When World War II broke out, Moncel went to Europe with the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR). Leslie Booth
Brigadier Eric Leslie Booth, (April 21, 1904 – August 14, 1944) was a Canadian Army officer. Biography Born in Lancaster, England, Leslie Booth was the son of John William Booth and Rose Elizabeth Booth. His father was a veteran of the First World War. Booth was married to Mary Helen Booth of Penetanguishene, Ontario. Joining the Canadian Militia in the peacetime years, Booth was an officer with The Mississauga Horse of Toronto and later the 2nd/10th Dragoons of Hamilton until the outbreak of war in 1939. Joining the 1st Hussars of London, he proceeded overseas where later he was attached to the British Army's 17th Lancers as the regiment's second-in-command and served in the North African Campaign under General Montgomery. Major-General James Desmond Blaise "Des" Smith, CBE, DSO, KStJ, CD (2 October 1911 – 11 October 1991) was a senior Canadian Army officer active in World War II, fighting in the Italian Campaign and Northwest Europe. Early life and military career Smith was born in Ottawa, Ontario on 2 October 1911. He studied at the Royal Military College of Canada and graduated in 1933. On graduation he was promoted to lieutenant and attached to the Royal Canadian Dragoons. The 10th Canadian Infantry Brigade was a formation of the Canadian Army in both World War I and World War II. The brigade fought on the Western Front during World War I, and in Normandy and north-west Europe during World War II. It formed part of the 4th Canadian Division. The 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade was an armoured brigade of the Canadian Army that saw active service during World War II. The brigade was composed of the 6th, 10th and 27th Canadian Armoured regiments and saw service in northwest Europe, landing in Normandy on D-Day and remaining in combat up to Victory in Europe Day. History Soon after the 3rd Canadian Tank Brigade assumed the designation in summer 1943 of the original 2nd Canadian Tank Brigade, the new 2nd Tank was redesignated and reorganized as 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade.
