4th Airmobile Brigade (France)
The 4th Airmobile Brigade () is a helicopter unit of the French Army. It makes up most of the French Army Light Aviation. The brigade is heir to the traditions and honours of the 4th Airmobile Division. The French Army announced that the brigade would be disbanded in 2010 and its constituent units placed directly under the command of the Land Forces Command. Montauban (, ; ) is a commune in the southern French department of Tarn-et-Garonne. It is the capital of the department and lies north of Toulouse. 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment
The 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment (5e Régiment d'Hélicoptères de Combat) (5e RHC) is a unit of the French Army. It is currently based at Uzein near Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and is equipped with Eurocopter Tiger HAP helicopters. The 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment took part in the 1991 Gulf War, transporting anti-tank infantry. The unit was deployed in Mali in 2019 as part of Operation Barkhane. On 25 November 2019 a Tiger from the unit collided with a Eurocopter AS532 Cougar transport helicopter, causing both aircraft to crash and killing all 13 on board. The 3rd Combat Helicopter Regiment (3e Régiment d'Hélicoptères de Combat) (3e RHC) is located in Étain with 33 Gazelle, 16 Puma. History The regiment was created on 1 August 1977. It is located at Base_Lieutenant_Étienne_Mantoux, formerly known as the American occupied Étain Air Base. The regiment is heir by descent of the Aviation Platoon of the 9th Colonial Infantry Division, later transformed into the 3rd, then 23rd Aerial Artillery Observation Group (GAOA). The Eurocopter AS532 Cougar (now Airbus Helicopters H215M) is a twin-engine, medium-weight, multipurpose helicopter developed by Eurocopter. The AS532 is a development and upgrade of the Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma in its militarized form. Its civilian counterpart is the Eurocopter AS332 Super Puma (Later called the Airbus Helicopters H215, note the lack of M suffix). The AS532 has been further developed as the Eurocopter EC725.
