4G Americas is a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies. The organization was established in January 2002 under the name 3G Americas. On September 28, 2010, 3G Americas announced the organization's name change to 4G Americas. 4G Americas works throughout the Western hemisphere to inform government agencies, other businesses and the public about the 3GPP wireless technologies. 4G Americas works with government agencies, regulatory bodies, technical standards organizations and other global wireless organizations to promote interoperability and convergence. Wireless communication (or just wireless, when the context allows) is the transfer of information between two or more points without the use of an electrical conductor, optical fiber or other continuous guided medium for the transfer. CITEL
The Inter-American Telecommunication Commission or ''Comisión Interamericana de Telecomunicaciones'' (CITEL) is an entity of the Organization of American States. It was originally created as the Inter-American Electrical Communication Commission at the Fifth International American Conference in May 1923. The GSM Association (commonly referred to as 'the GSMA' or ''Global System for Mobile Communications'', originally ''Groupe Spécial Mobile'') is an industry organisation that represents the interests of mobile network operators worldwide. More than 750 mobile operators are full GSMA members and a further 400 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem are associate members. The GSMA represents its members via industry programmes, working groups and industry advocacy initiatives. UMTS Forum
UMTS Forum is an open cross sector and independent organization founded on 16 December 1996 in Zürich, Switzerland, as a non-profit association under Swiss law with the aim to enhance the modular 3G/UMTS concept, which takes full regard of the trend of convergence of existing and future information networks, devices and services, and the potential synergies that can be derived from such convergence. Following successful global implementation of UMTS, focus changed to upgrades and evolution of UMTS. Currently mobile operators are implementing HSPA (High Speed Packet Access), which will be followed by LTE (Long Term Evolution). This change is also reflected in activities of UMTS Forum.
