47 Commando (Raiding Group) Royal Marines, formerly 1 Assault Group Royal Marines, is one of the commando units of Royal Marines that specialise in air assault operations, amphibious and coastal raiding with commando styles, forward air control, irregular warfare, long-range penetration, naval boarding, operating in a variety of terrain conditions, riverine warfare as well as small boat operations, and special reconnaissance. The unit falls under United Kingdom Commando Force (UKCF). In addition, it trains personnel for the Assault Squadrons of the Royal Marines (ASRM) and their landing craft detachments. It is based at RM Tamar in HMNB Devonport, Plymouth. A Life On The Ocean Wave
"A Life on the Ocean Wave" is a poem-turned-song by Epes Sargent published in 1838 and set to music by Henry Russell. It is the iconic Regimental March of His Majesty's Royal Marines. Origin of the poem and song One day Sargent was walking on The Battery in New York City watching the ships enter the harbour. Royal Marines Tamar or more commonly RM Tamar, is a Royal Marines military installation specialising in landing craft training and operations located on the northern bank of Weston Mill Lake at the north end of HMNB Devonport at Plymouth in Devon. United Kingdom Commando Force
United Kingdom Commando Force (UKCF), previously called 3 Commando Brigade (3 Cdo Bde), is the UK's special operations-capable commando formation of the Royal Marines. It is composed of Royal Marine Commandos and commando qualified personnel from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. The brigade was formed 1 September 1943 at Dorchester with personnel from 102 RM Brigade, during the Second World War, with a mixture of Army Commando and Royal Marine Commando units, and was deployed to the South-East Asian Theatre of World War II to conduct operations against the invading forces of Imperial Japan, such as the Burma Campaign.
