45 GAP
The .45 GAP (Glock Auto Pistol) or .45 Glock (11.43×19mmRB) is a pistol cartridge designed by Ernest Durham, an engineer with CCI/Speer, at the request of firearms manufacturer Glock to provide a cartridge that would equal the power of the .45 ACP, have a stronger case head to reduce the possibility of case neck blowouts, and be shorter to fit in a more compact handgun. The .45 GAP is the first commercially introduced cartridge that has been identified with Glock. Development The .45 GAP has the same diameter as the .45 ACP pistol cartridge but is slightly shorter, and uses a small-pistol primer instead of the large-pistol primer most commonly used in .45 ACP ammunition. Originally, the maximum bullet weight of the .45 GAP was . In order to provide terminal ballistics that matched the standard .45 ACP loads, the .45 GAP was designed to operate at a higher standard pressure—roughly equivalent to the higher pressures found in .45 ACP "+P" rounds. Since the .45 GAP has a mu ...

Pistol
A pistol is a type of handgun, characterised by a gun barrel, barrel with an integral chamber (firearms), chamber. The word "pistol" derives from the Middle French ''pistolet'' (), meaning a small gun or knife, and first appeared in the English language when early handguns were produced in Europe. In colloquial usage, the word "pistol" is often used as a generic term to describe ''any'' type of handgun, inclusive of revolvers (which have a single barrel and a separate cylinder (firearms), cylinder housing multiple chambers) and the pocket gun, pocket-sized derringers (which are often multiple-barrel firearm, multi-barrelled). The most common type of pistol used in the contemporary era is the semi-automatic pistol. The older single-shot and lever-action pistols are now rarely seen and used primarily for nostalgic hunting and historical reenactment. Fully-automatic machine pistols are uncommon in civilian usage because of their generally poor recoil-controllability (due to the l ...

Table Of Handgun And Rifle Cartridges
This is a table of selected pistol/submachine gun and rifle/machine gun cartridges by common name. Data values are the highest found for the cartridge, and might not occur in the same load (e.g. the highest muzzle energy might not be in the same load as the highest muzzle velocity, since the bullet weights can differ between loads). Legend * Factory loadings. Number of manufacturers producing complete cartridges - e.g. Norma, RWS, Hornady, Winchester, Federal, Remington, Sellier & Bellot, Prvi Partizan. May be none for obsolete and wildcat cartridges. * H/R: Handgun (H) or rifle (R) - dominant usage of the cartridge (although several dual-purpose cartridges exist) * Size: Metric size - may not be official * MV: Muzzle velocity, in feet-per-second * ME: Muzzle energy, in foot-pounds * P: Momentum, in pound (force) (lbf) times seconds. A guide to the recoil from the cartridge, and an indicator of bullet penetration potential. The .30-06 Springfield (at 2.064 lbf-s) is cons ...

List Of Rebated Rim Cartridges
Below is a list of rebated rim cartridges. Rebated-rim cartridges have a rim that is significantly smaller in diameter than the base of the case, serving only for extraction. Functionally the same as a rimless case, the rebated rim allows a gun to be easily converted to fire a larger-than-normal cartridge, as most of a firearm's loading and extraction mechanism does not need to be altered as long as the rim size is preserved. Rebated-rim cartridges are known to be used on firearms using advanced primer ignition (API blowback) for its operation, notably autocannons such as the 20mm Becker/Oerlikon series.Williams, Anthony G., ''Of Oerlikons and other things……''

10mm Auto
The 10mm Auto (also known as the 10×25mm, official C.I.P. nomenclature: 10 mm Auto, official SAAMI nomenclature: 10mm Automatic) is a powerful and versatile semi-automatic pistol cartridge introduced in 1983. Its design was adopted and later produced by ammunition manufacturer FFV Norma AB of Åmotfors, Sweden. The 10mm was selected for service by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 1989 in the aftermath of the 1986 FBI Miami shootout. During the testing and development process, the FBI Firearms Training Unit developed a downloaded version of the 10mm cartridge which they felt provided adequate performance while minimizing recoil and muzzle blast. It is commonly claimed that this reduced loading was developed as the result of complaints or training problems involving agents who were issued the 10mm, but the reduced loading was developed before any pistols were issued. The cartridge was later decommissioned (except for use by the Hostage Rescue Team and S ...

44 Magnum
The .44 Remington Magnum, also known as .44 Magnum or 10.9x33mmR (as it is known in unofficial metric designation), is a rimmed, large-bore cartridge originally designed for revolvers and quickly adopted for carbines and rifles. Despite the ".44" designation, guns chambered for the .44 Magnum round, its parent case, the .44 Special, and the .44 Special's parent case, the .44 Russian all use diameter bullets.''Lyman Reloading Handbook'', 48th edition, 2002 The .44 Magnum is based on the .44 Special case but lengthened and loaded to higher pressures for greater velocity and energy. Famously called "the most powerful handgun artridgein the world" by the title character in '' Dirty Harry'', the .44 Magnum has since been eclipsed in power by the .45 Winchester Magnum, .454 Casull, .460 S&W Magnum, .475 Wildey Magnum, .480 Ruger, .50 Action Express, .500 S&W Magnum, .500 Bushwhacker, and the .600 Nitro Express; nevertheless, due in part to its more manageable recoil, ...
