44th Infantry Regiment (PS)
Four regiments of the United States Army have used the designation 44th Infantry Regiment; one during the War of 1812, one during the Reconstruction Era, one during World War I, and one regiment of the Philippine Scouts. War of 1812 The first 44th Infantry Regiment was a regular United States Army regiment of infantry that served during the War of 1812. The 44th Infantry Regiment was on formed 29 January 1813, being recruited in Louisiana. Its colonel was George Thompson Ross of Pennsylvania. On 17 May 1815, it was consolidated with the 2nd Infantry, 3rd Infantry, and 7th Infantry regiments, to form the 1st Infantry Regiment. The Reconstruction era was a period in History of the United States, US history that followed the American Civil War (1861-65) and was dominated by the legal, social, and political challenges of the Abolitionism in the United States, abolition of slavery and reintegration of the former Confederate States of America, Confederate States into the United States. The 14th Infantry Regiment ("Golden Dragons" ) is a United States Army light infantry regiment. It has served in the American Civil War, Boxer Rebellion, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Operation Restore Hope, Operation Uphold Democracy, Operation Joint Guard, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Gothic Serpent, Operation New Dawn (Iraq, 2010-2011), Operation New Dawn, Operation Resolute Support,Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve, and Operation Freedom's Sentinel, Operation Freedom Sentinel. American Expeditionary Force
The American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) was a formation of the United States Armed Forces on the Western Front (World War I), Western Front during World War I, composed mostly of units from the United States Army, U.S. Army. The AEF was established on July 5, 1917, in Chaumont, Haute-Marne, Chaumont, France under the command of then-major general John J. Pershing. 31st Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 31st Infantry Regiment ("Polar Bears") of the United States Army was formed on 13 August 1916, and was part of U.S. Army Forces Far East, USAFFE's Philippine Division (United States), Philippine Division during World War II. The unit is rare in that it was formed and has spent most of its life on non-American soil. The regiment is the third to bear the designation; the first was formed for the War of 1812 and disbanded in 1815. The second was created from the 3rd Battalion of the 13th Infantry Regiment (United States), 13th Infantry on 28 July 1866, in the reorganization of the U.S. Army following the American Civil War. 45th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 45th Infantry Regiment was a unit of the Philippine Scouts in the Philippine Division. History The 45th, along with the 57th Infantry Regiment, were the first two infantry regiments of the Philippine Scouts which were formed after World War I. Th regiment was stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia, as of June 1919 as a separate regiment, and was transferred on 4 September 1919 to Camp Dix, New Jersey. It was then transferred on 25 October 1920, less enlisted personnel and equipment, to Fort Mason, California, and sailed on 5 November 1920 to the Philippines with officer cadre, records, and colors, aboard the USAT ''Thomas''. 43rd Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 43rd Philippine Scout Infantry Regiment (43rd INF (PS)) was part of USAFFE's Philippine Division, during World War II. History The 43d Infantry Regiment was formed in June 1917, at Fort Douglas, Utah. In April 1921, it became a Philippine Scout unit and joined the Philippine Division, on 22 October. In 1922, the unit was deactivated. The 1st Battalion was reactivated on 1 April 1941, formed from troops transferred from the 45th Infantry Regiment (PS), and the 329 troops of the 1st Battalion served at Pettit Barracks and Camp John Hay. The 1st Battalion surrendered to the Japanese on 9 April 1942. The 21st Infantry Regiment ("Gimlet") is a United States Army infantry regiment. The 1st Battalion currently exists as part of 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. The regiment fought in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom. Hawaiian Division
The Hawaiian Division was a division of the United States Army, dedicated to the defense of Hawaii. This division was named rather than numbered, as were the Philippine, Panama Canal and Americal Divisions. It was first activated under the peacetime Square Division Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E) on 25 February 1921 as the Hawaiian Division using assets of the World War I era 11th Infantry Division. It, the Philippine Division, and the Americal Division were the last three U.S. Army divisions to be named rather than numbered. Joseph E. Kuhn, then in command of Schofield Barracks, oversaw the initial organization and employment of the division. Schofield Barracks is a United States Army installation and census-designated place (CDP) located in Honolulu and in the Wahiawa District of the Hawaiian island of Oahu, Hawaii. Schofield Barracks lies adjacent to the town of Wahiawā, separated from most of it by Lake Wilson (also known as Wahiawā Reservoir).
