43rd Telluride Film Festival
The 43rd Telluride Film Festival took place on September 2–5, 2016, in Telluride, Colorado, United States. Director Volker Schlöndorff was appointed as the year's guest director. Telluride honored Casey Affleck, Amy Adams, and Pablo Larraín as the Telluride Film Festival Silver Medallion, Silver Medallion awardees. The festival line-up was announced on September 1, 2016. Telluride, Colorado
Telluride is the county seat and most populous town of San Miguel County in the southwestern portion of the U.S. state of Colorado. The town is a former silver mining camp on the San Miguel River in the western San Juan Mountains. The first gold mining claim was made in the mountains above Telluride in 1875, and early settlement of what is now Telluride followed. The town was founded in 1878 as "Columbia", but due to confusion with a California town of the same name, was renamed Telluride in 1887 for the gold telluride minerals found in other parts of Colorado. These telluride minerals were never found near Telluride, but the area's mines for some years provided zinc, lead, copper, silver, and other gold ores. Telluride sits in a box canyon. In it, Herzog explores active volcanoes from around the world, and the people who live near them, with volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer. Cristian Mungiu (; born 27 April 1968) is a Romanian filmmaker. He won the Palme d'Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for his film ''4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days'', which he wrote and directed. Gianfranco Rosi (; born 30 November 1963) is an Italian-American documentary filmmaker. ''Fire at Sea'' ( it, Fuocoammare) is a 2016 Italian documentary film directed by Gianfranco Rosi. It won the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival.
