414th Infantry Regiment (United States)
The 414th Regiment is a training regiment of the United States Army Reserve. It was originally constituted as an Idaho-based Organized Reserve unit, the 414th Infantry, in 1921 during the interwar period. The 414th fought in World War II with the 104th Infantry Division and was inactivated after the end of the war. It was reactivated postwar and moved to Washington state before being reorganized as a training unit in 1959, becoming part of the 104th Division (Training). History The regiment was constituted in the Organized Reserve on 24 June 1921 as the 414th Infantry, part of the Ninth Corps Area's 104th Division, which was later redesignated as the 104th Infantry Division. Fort Missoula
Fort Missoula was established by the United States Army in 1877 on land that is now part of the city of Missoula, Montana, to protect settlers in Western Montana from possible threats from the Native American Indians, such as the Nez Perce. Beginning in 1888, the fort was home to the famous '' Buffalo Soldiers'' of the 25th Infantry Regiment (3rd Formation). While stationed at Fort Missoula, this unit tested the practicality of soldiers traveling by bicycles by conducting numerous training rides, with one ride all the way to St. Louis, Missouri. The Trans-America Bicycle Trail established in 1976 goes through Missoula, and covers some of the routes pedaled by the 25th Regiment. 95th Infantry Division (United States)
The 95th Infantry Division was an infantry division of the United States Army. Today it exists as the 95th Training Division, a component of the United States Army Reserve headquartered at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Activated too late to deploy for World War I, the division remained in the Army's reserve until World War II, when it was sent to Europe. Renowned for fighting back fierce German counterattacks, the division earned the nickname "Iron Men of Metz" for fighting to liberate and defend the town. In April 1945, the 95th Infantry Division (United States) "Victory" division uncovered a German prison and civilian labor camp in the town of Werl.
