401st Tactical Airlift Squadron (JASDF)
The is a squadron of the 1st Tactical Airlift Group (JASDF), 1st Tactical Airlift Group of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) based at Nagoya Airfield, Komaki Air Base in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It is equipped with Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Lockheed C-130H Hercules and Lockheed C-130 Hercules, Lockheed KC-130H Hercules aircraft. The C-130H has a greater range than its predecessor the Kawasaki C-1, and since the 1980s Japan's posture has gradually become more outward-looking and the Self-Defense Forces have become more involved in activities beyond Japan's shores. These have included humanitarian relief and evacuation missions, supporting US and Japanese military activities, and participation in multi-national military exercises. RAAF Base Richmond is a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) military air base located within the City of Hawkesbury, approximately North-West of the Sydney Central Business District in New South Wales, Australia. Operation Christmas Drop is a tradition that started in 1952 that serves as a training mission for the U.S. Air Force. It has since become the longest-running U.S. Department of Defense mission in full operation, and the longest-running humanitarian airlift in the world. Supported by the local communities of Guam, it is primarily conducted from Andersen Air Force Base and Yokota Air Base, and targets Micronesia.
