3rd Alberta Legislative Assembly
The 3rd Alberta Legislative Assembly was in session from September 16, 1913, to April 5, 1917, with the membership of the assembly determined by the results of the 1913 Alberta general election held on April 17, 1913. The Legislature officially resumed on September 16, 1913, and continued until the fifth session was prorogued on April 17, 1917 and dissolved on May 14, 1917, prior to the 1917 Alberta general election. Alberta's second government was controlled by the majority Liberal Party led by Premier Arthur Sifton. The Official Opposition was the Conservative Party led by Edward Michener. The Speaker was Charles W. Fisher who continued in the role from the 1st and 2nd assembly, and would serve in the role until his death from the 1918 flu pandemic in 1919. The total number of seats in the assembly was increased from 41 contested in the 1913 election to 56. Charles W
The F/V ''Charles W'', also known as Annie J Larsen, is a historic fishing schooner anchored in Petersburg, Alaska. At the time of its retirement in 2000, it was the oldest fishing vessel in the fishing fleet of Southeast Alaska, and the only known wooden fishing vessel in the entire state still in active service. Launched in 1907, she was first used in the halibut fisheries of Puget Sound and the Bering Sea as the ''Annie J Larsen''. In 1925 she was purchased by the Alaska Glacier Seafood Company, refitted for shrimp trawling, and renamed ''Charles W'' in honor of owner Karl Sifferman's father. The company was one of the pioneers of the local shrimp fishery, a business it began to phase out due to increasing competition in the 1970s. The ''Charles W'' was the last of the company's fleet of ships, which numbered twelve at its height. The boat was acquired in 2002 by the nonprofit Friends of the ''Charles W''. Wilfrid Gariépy
Wilfrid Gariepy (March 14, 1877 – January 13, 1960) was a Canadian politician, member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and provincial cabinet minister, member of the House of Commons of Canada, and municipal councillor in Edmonton. Early life Wilfrid Gariépy was born in Montreal, Quebec, on March 14, 1877, born to parents Joseph Gariépy and Etudienne Boissoneault. He graduated high school from St-Laurent College and came to Edmonton with his family in 1893. Shortly after he returned to Montreal for university, earning a B.A. from Université Laval in 1899 and a B.C.L. from McGill University in 1902. He married Albertina Lessard, with whom he would have four children. He was admitted to the Alberta bar the same year and began work with the firm Taylor, Boyle & Gariépy. Beaver River (provincial Electoral District)
Beaver River was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1913 to 1952. It was created in 1913 from the western half of Pakan, and abolished in 1952 when it and the northern parts of Athabasca were replaced by Lac La Biche. Alexander Grant MacKay
Alexander Grant MacKay (March 7, 1860 – April 25, 1920) was a Canadian teacher, lawyer and provincial level politician. He served prominent posts in two provincial legislatures as Leader of the Opposition in Ontario and as a Cabinet Minister in Alberta. Early life Alexander Grant MacKay was born in Sydenham, Canada West, in Grey County on March 7, 1860, to parents Hugh MacKay and Katherine McInnis. He attended post secondary studies at the Owen Sound College and the University of Toronto obtaining a Master of Business degree. After university he became the principal of Port Rowan High School. In 1891 he joined the Ontario bar and served as a criminal lawyer until 1894, when he became Crown Attorney for Grey County. He served that role until 1912. Athabasca was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1905 to 1986. John McColl (politician)
John Arthur McColl (February 21, 1875 – April 19, 1933) was a Canadian politician and Member of the Legislative Assembly from Alberta. He was born at Maxville, Glengarry County, Ontario to Neil McColl and Annie McDougall. He was educated at Maxville Public School and married to Ethel Alguire on February 6, 1901. He had six children and worked as a farmer near Youngstown, Alberta. McColl, running as a Liberal, was elected to the Alberta legislature for the first time in the 1913 Alberta general election. He defeated Conservative candidate W.D. Bentley by a comfortable margin to win the new Acadia district. The Legislature officially resumed on February 7, 1918, and continued until the fourth session was prorogued on April 19, 1921 and dissolved on June 23, 1921, prior to the 1921 Alberta general election.
