Old Stratford is a village and wider civil parish in the south of the English county of Northamptonshire. The population of the civil parish (including Passenham) at the 2011 Census was 1,935. The 'Stratford' part of the village name is Old English language, Anglo-Saxon in origin and means 'Ford (crossing), ford on a Roman road'. The Roman road in this sense is the Watling Street that runs through the middle of the village. Statute Law Revision Act 1948
The Statute Law Revision Act 1948 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Section 5(3) of the Statute Law Revision Act 1950 provided that this Act, so far as it repealed chapter 34 of the Statute of Westminster 1285 (13 Edw. 1 St. 1 c. 34), was to be deemed not to have extended to Northern Ireland. Section 1: Enactments in schedule repealed This section provided, amongst other things, that the enactments described in Schedule 1 to this Act were repealed, subject to the provisions of this Act and subject to the exceptions and qualifications in that Schedule.
