3XN
3XN is a Danish architectural practice headquartered in Copenhagen and with offices in Stockholm, London, New York and Sydney. History The company was founded in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1986 as Nielsen, Nielsen & Nielsen (later 3 X Nielsen) by Kim Herforth Nielsen, Hans Peter Svendler Nielsen and Lars Frank Nielsen. The firm quickly became known for creating buildings of substance with compelling aesthetics supported by a strong theoretical foundation. The international breakthrough came in the late 90s with the Danish Embassy in Berlin (1999) and the Muziekgebouw Concert Hall in Amsterdam (competition win in 1997). Hans Peter Svendler Nielsen and Lars Frank Nielsen left the company in 1992 and 2001. Today, 3XN is led by a senior partner group of five with Kim Herforth Nielsen as the Creative Director. Quay Quarter Tower
Quay Quarter Tower is a skyscraper located at 50 Bridge Street, Sydney, Australia. Built as the AMP Centre in 1976, the structure underwent a redevelopment from 2018 to 2021 which increased its height, introduced cantilevers, created additional office space, and modernised the tower's overall form and design. The AMP Centre re-opened as Quay Quarter Tower in early 2022, and stands at a height of with 54 floors. Kim Herforth Nielsen
Kim Herforth Nielsen (born 1954) is a Denmark, Danish architect, co-founder and principal of 3XN. He graduated from Aarhus School of Architecture in 1981 and has been a prominent figure in Danish and international architecture since then. Kim Herforth Nielsen has been at the forefront of a number of noteworthy projects, such as Ørestad College and Royal Arena in Copenhagen, the Danish Embassy in Berlin, International Olympic Committee's HQ in Lausanne and Sydney Fish Market. Royal Arena
The Royal Arena is a multi-use indoor arena in the Ørestad#Ørestad South, Ørestad South area of Copenhagen, Denmark. The ground was broken for construction on 26 June 2013 and the arena opened in February 2017. The AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen, formerly the Bella Sky Comwell Hotel, is a 4-star conference hotel adjacent to the Bella Convention and Congress Center in the Ørestad district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Ørestad High School ( Danish: Ørestad Gymnasium) is a public gymnasium in the Ørestad district of Copenhagen, Denmark. Buen kulturhus is a cultural multi-purpose house located in the town of Mandal in the municipality of Lindesnes in Agder, Norway. The building opened in 2012 and includes a library, an art gallery, cinemas, halls adapted for theater, dance, concerts, and other events as well as a culture school. Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ ( English: "Music Building on the IJ") is the main concert hall for contemporary classical music on the IJ in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The building opened in 2005 and is located above the IJtunnel, a ten-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal station. The building was designed by Danish architects 3XN. The Bimhuis is part of and partly integrated in the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Ørestad Gymnasium - Inside (2016)
Ørestad () is a developing city area in Copenhagen, Denmark, on the island of Amager. The area was developed using the new town concept, closely linked with the M1 line of the Copenhagen Metro. Economically, income for the plan would be generated by selling the public-owned, unused land for development, thus financing the construction of the metro, and conversely, metro access was deemed necessary for making development attractive. While the metro is the primary public transport access, the area is also served by the Øresund Line between Copenhagen and Malmö, the motorway E20 and close to Copenhagen Airport. Ørestad was originally planned to consist of four districts, however only three are developed: Ørestad Nord, the unbuilt Amager Fælled area (which will remain a nature reserve), Ørestad City and Ørestad Syd. Nykredit Architecture Prize
The Nykredit Architecture Prize is the largest Danish architecture prize. Founded by the Nykredit Foundation (an arm of the Nykredit Group), it is awarded annually to a person, or group of people, who have personally, or through their work, made a significant contribution to the building industry in the form of architecture or planning, etc. The recipient receives DKK 500,000, making it one of the largest architecture prizes in the world in terms of prize money.
