39th Guadalajara International Film Festival
The 39th Guadalajara International Film Festival took place from June 7 to 15, 2024, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Spanish documentary film '' This Excessive Ambition'' served as the festival's opening film, screened at the opening ceremony at Telmex Auditorium. Directed by Santos Bacana, Rogelio González and Cristina Trenas, the film follows the tour ''Sin cantar ni afinar'' by Spanish rapper C. Tangana. Yorgos Lanthimos anthology film ''Kinds of Kindness'' served as the closing film. Pierre Saint Martin's ''We Shall Not Be Moved'' won the Mezcal Award for Best Film in the Mexican films section. Nopal
Nopal (from the Nahuatl word for the pads of the plant) is a common name in Spanish for ''Opuntia'' cacti (commonly referred to in English as ''prickly pear''), as well as for its pads. There are about 114 known species in Mexico, where it is a common ingredient in numerous Mexican cuisine dishes. The nopal pads can be eaten raw or cooked, used in marmalades, soups, stews and salads, as well as being used for traditional medicine or as fodder for animals. Farmed nopales are most often of the species ''Opuntia ficus-indica'' or '' Opuntia matudae'' although the pads of almost all ''Opuntia'' species are edible. The other part of the nopal cactus that is edible is the fruit, called the in Spanish and the "prickly pear" in English. Levan Akin (born 14 December 1979) is a Swedish film director and screenwriter, best known for his film '' And Then We Danced'', that received critical acclaim and won the 2019 Guldbagge Award for Best Film. Isaki Lacuesta (born 1975, Girona) is a Spanish film director from Catalonia. His work includes documentary film, narrative film and video art. Lacuesta was born into a family of Basque origin. He studied audiovisual communication at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and obtained his Master's Degree in documentary film making at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, where he now works as a lecturer in documentary film making.
