37 Seconds
''37 Seconds'' is a 2019 Japanese drama film written and directed by Hikari. The film features actress Mei Kayama, who has cerebral palsy, as 23-year-old Yuma Takada, a talented artist who wants to make her name in manga. A sympathetic magazine editor ( Yuka Itaya) tells Takada her art is technically proficient but betrays her lack of worldly experience. Criticizing her depictions of sex as unconvincing, the editor tells the young woman, who uses a wheelchair to get around, to lose her virginity and then return. This sparks a voyage of self-discovery as she rebels against her over-protective mother and seeks out new experiences, trying to assert her budding independence. The film was screened at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival and won the Audience Award and the International Confederation of Art Cinemas’ Art Cinema Award in the festival's Panorama section. Mitsuyo Miyazaki, known as Hikari, is a Japanese writer, director and producer of film and television. She is best known for directing the film ''37 seconds,'' and three episodes of the Netflix series ''Beef''. Early life Originally from Osaka, Japan, Hikari moved to the United States at 17 years old to be a foreign exchange student in Utah. She then graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Theater Arts, Dance and Fine Arts from Southern Utah University in 1999, and in 2015 was honored with the school's Outstanding Alumnus Award. She moved to Los Angeles after graduating, and worked as an actor for several years. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Film and TV Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 2011. Shizuka Ishibashi
is a Japanese actress. She is represented by the talent agency Plage. Biography Ishibashi was born as the second of three daughters of actors Ryo Ishibashi and Mieko Harada. She began classical ballet at the age of four and in 2009 went abroad to study at ballet schools in Boston and Calgary, before returning to Japan in 2013.
