Benbrook Field (Camp Taliaferro Field #3) is a former World War I military airfield, located North of Benbrook, Texas. It operated as a training field for the Air Service, United States Army between 1917 until 1919. After the United States' entry into World War I in April 1917, General John J. Pershing, John J. The 379th Space Range Squadron is an Air Force Reserve unit. It is assigned to the 926th Wing at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. It is a reserve associate squadron of United States Space Force's 25th Space Range Squadron. The squadron was first active during World War II as the 379th Bombardment Squadron, becoming a medium bomber unit a month after it was activated. After training in the United States, it deployed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, where it participated in Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa. It moved forward with American ground forces. The squadron was awarded a two Distinguished Unit Citations for its actions in combat. Following V-E Day, the squadron was inactivated in theater. The 379th Expeditionary Operations Group is a provisional United States Air Force unit assigned to the United States Air Forces Central. It is the flying component of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, stationed at Al Udeid AB, Qatar. The Group is the flying component of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, with more than 90 combat and support attached aircraft, including eight coalition airframes. Aircraft come from every US service, the United Kingdom, and Australia. The group was first activated in September 1991 as part of the Objective Wing reorganization of the Air Force. The 379th Fighter Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. Its last was assigned to the 362d Fighter Group, Second Air Force, stationed at Biggs Field, Texas. It was inactivated on 1 August 1946. History Established on 1 March 1943 at Westover Field, Massachusetts as the 362d Fighter Group, equipped with P-47 Thunderbolts. Deployed to the European Theater of Operations (ETO), and assigned to Ninth Air Force in England. Engaged in combat operations until May 1945.
