347th Squadron (HAF)
The 347th Squadron ( el, 347 Μοίρα, ), callsign "Perseus" (), is a squadron in service with the Hellenic Air Force, forming part of the 111th Combat Wing. It is based at Nea Anchialos Air Base, and operates the F-16 Block 50 aircraft. History The squadron was established in early 1977 as the 347th Bomber Squadron (347 Μοίρα Βομβαρδισμού), at the Souda Air Base ( 115th Combat Wing). Once its strength was complete, it moved to 110th Combat Wing at Larissa Air Base on 10 June 1977, with 19 A-7H Corsair aircraft. The squadron was disbanded on 21 July 1992, and its aircraft handed over to 115 Combat Wing. Preparations for the squadron's reactivation, this time with F-16 Block 50 aircraft, began in 1995, with personnel from the existing F-16 squadrons, 330th and 346th. Araxos Air Base
Araxos Airport ( el, Αεροδρόμιο Αράξου) is the airport of Patras, the third-largest city in Greece. It serves as a combined civilian and military airport and is located near its namesake, the village of Araxos, Achaea. It is also known as ''Agamemnon Airport'' and primarily is used as an active air base for the Hellenic Air Force, with some civilian services to European destinations during the summer months. The airport facilities were very limited until 2007, when the construction of a new 1,477 m2 arrivals building was completed. Larissa Air Base
Larissa State Airport "Thessaly" ( el, Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Λάρισσας "Θεσσαλία") was built in 1912. It was the commercial airport of Larissa until 1997 when it closed for civilian traffic. Currently the airport is being used only by military aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force, whose 110th Combat Wing (110 Πτέρυγα Μάχης, 110 ΠΜ) is stationed there. The runways do not have an ILS. Chania International Airport "Daskalogiannis" is an international airport located near Souda Bay on the Akrotiri peninsula of the Greek island of Crete, serving the city of Chania, away. Squadron (aviation)
A squadron in air force, army aviation, or naval aviation is a unit comprising a number of military aircraft and their aircrews, usually of the same type, typically with 12 to 24 aircraft, sometimes divided into three or four flights, depending on aircraft type and air force. Land-based squadrons equipped with heavier type aircraft such as long-range bombers, cargo aircraft, or air refueling tankers have around 12 aircraft as a typical authorization, while most land-based fighter equipped units have an authorized number of 18 to 24 aircraft.
