33rd Cavalry Regiment (United States)
The 33rd Armor Regiment was an armored regiment in the United States Army first formed in 1941. In 2005, the 33rd Armor was redesignated 33rd Cavalry Regiment. The 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, a part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, carries on the lineage of 33rd Armor Regiment. Lineage Constituted 13 January 1941 in the Regular Army as the 3rd Armored Regiment and assigned to the 3rd Armored Division. Activated 15 April 1941 at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana. Redesignated 8 May 1941 as the 33rd Armored Regiment. Inactivated 10 November 1945 in Germany. The 77th Armor is an armored (tank) regiment of the United States Army. The Valorous Unit Award (VUA) is the second highest United States Army unit decoration which may be bestowed upon an Army unit after the Presidential Unit Citation (PUC). The VUA is awarded by the United States Army to units of the United States Armed Forces or cobelligerent nations which display extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy of the United States on or after 3 August 1963. The unit degree of heroism required is considered the equivalent of the individual degree of heroism required for the Silver Star which is awarded for gallantry in action.
