30th Missouri Infantry Regiment
The 30th Missouri Infantry Regiment, also known as the Shamrock Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was a sister unit to the 7th Missouri Infantry Regiment (the "Irish Seventh") and in 1864 was consolidated with a battalion of veteran volunteers of that regiment and operated as a "demi-brigade" known popularly as the "Missouri Irish Brigade". Service The 30th Missouri Infantry Regiment, was organized at St. Louis Missouri in the autumn of 1862 and mustered in for three years service. Missouri In The Civil War
During the American Civil War, Missouri was a hotly contested border state populated by both Union and Confederate sympathizers. It sent armies, generals, and supplies to both sides, maintained dual governments, and endured a bloody neighbor-against-neighbor intrastate war within the larger national war. A slave state since statehood in 1821, Missouri's geographic position in the center of the country and at the rural edge of the American frontier ensured that it remained a divisive battleground for competing Northern and Southern ideologies in the years preceding the war. Port Hudson is an unincorporated community in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. Located about northwest of Baton Rouge, it is known primarily as the location of an American Civil War battle, the siege of Port Hudson, in 1863.
