2013 Cypriot Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Cyprus on 17 February 2013. A runoff was held on 24 February 2013. Nicos Anastasiades of Democratic Rally won the election. The other candidates were Stavros Malas of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL); Praxoula Antoniadou of the United Democrats; Lakis Ioannou with the support of LASOK; Loukas Stavrou; ELAM's Giorgos Charalambous, Giorgos Lillikas of Movement for Social Democracy (EDEK); and independents Andreas Efstratiou, Makaria-Andri Stylianou, Kostas Kyriacou(Outopos) and Solon Gregoriou. Although the president Demetris Christofias was not term-limited, he did not seek re-election in 2013. Nicos Anastasiades
Nicos Anastasiades ( el, Νίκος Αναστασιάδης ; born 27 September 1946) is a Cypriot politician who is the current president of Cyprus since 2013. He was re-elected in 2018. Previously, he was the leader of Democratic Rally between 1997 and 2013 and served as Member of Parliament from Limassol between 1981 and 2013. Education Anastasiades is a lawyer by profession, and the founder of law firm "Nicos Chr. Anastasiades & Partners". He graduated in law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed postgraduate studies in shipping law at University College London. Andreas Efstratiou ( el, Ανδρέας Ευστρατίου) is a Cypriot bridal shop owner and perennial candidate. He has been a candidate in every Cypriot presidential and parliamentary election since 2000 and every European election until 2019. In the 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018 presidential elections he received 0.15, 0.16, 0.10 and 0.22% of the vote, respectively, and in the 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 parliamentary elections, he received 1.10, 1.40, 0.65 and 0.62% of the vote in Paphos Constituency, respectively. Demetris Syllouris
Demetris Syllouris ( el, Δημήτρης Συλλούρης; tr, Dimitris Şilluris; born 27 July 1953) is a Greek-Cypriot politician. He is the former president of the Cypriot parliament and was the leader of the European Party between 2005 and 2016. Syllouris was born in Nicosia and studied Civil Engineering at the University of East London. The Movement for Social Democracy ( el, Κίνημα Σοσιαλδημοκρατών, translit=Kinima Sosialdimokraton, EDEK) is a Greek Cypriot, social-democratic political party in Cyprus. European Party (Cyprus)
The European Party (Greek: Evropaiko Komma, Ευρωπαϊκό Κόμμα; abbreviated Ευρωκό, "Evroko") was a political party in Cyprus founded in 2005, largely out of the parties New Horizons and European Democracy. In March 2016, it dissolved to merge into the Solidarity Movement. The two predecessors were considered the most nationalist, anti-Turkish and anti-immigrant among Greek Cypriot parties. Evroko had a hard-line stance on the Cyprus problem, rejecting any compromise with Turkey or the Turkish-dominated Northern Cyprus, as proposed by the Annan Plan for Cyprus.
