Connie Kaldor
Connie Isabelle Kaldor, (born 9 May 1953) is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter. She is the recipient of three Juno awards. Early life and education Kaldor was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. She graduated from Campbell Collegiate in Regina in 1972 and the University of Alberta in 1976 with a BFA degree in theatre. Career Kaldor performed with various theatre groups, including Theatre Passe Muraille, The Mummers and 25th Street House Theatre, until 1979, when she gave it up to start a full-time music career. In 1981, she founded her own independent record label, Coyote Entertainment, and has released eighteen albums. Part of the Canadian Wave, Connie has performed alongside talents such as Stan Rogers, Ferron, and Valdy, and contributed to a newly emerging and distinctly Canadian sound. Dala is a Canadians, Canadian Acoustic music, acoustic-Folk music, folk two-piece musical group, made up by Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther, both of Scarborough, Toronto, Scarborough, Ontario. Early history (2002-2005) Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther first met at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, at a high school band practice. Quickly afterwards, Carabine and Walther's friendship blossomed and they formed ''Dala'' in the summer of 2002. Art Napoleon is a former chief of the Saulteau First Nation, from Victoria, British Columbia. He has used his television shows, music, and books to provide education on and increase awareness of Indigenous foods, languages, and cultures. He is co-host of the popular cooking show, "''Moosemeat & Marmalade''", and has appeared in other programs that promote and support Indigenous languages and cultures. Napoleon has also recorded several award-winning music albums. Early life Art Napoleon was born in the Saulteau First Nation on Moberly Lake, British Columbia, in 1961. The McDades
The McDades are a Canadian folk band made up of siblings Shannon Johnson (violin and vocals), Solon McDade (bass and vocals), and Jeremiah McDade (multi-instrumentalist and vocals). The McDades were performers at an early age, playing folk music with their parents, Terry and Danielle McDade, in the McDade Family Band from 1974–1994. The siblings performed at the Canadian National Exhibition, the Commonwealth Games, and for the British Royal Family. They formed the McDades in 2000. Steve Dawson is a Canadian guitarist, singer, and music producer. Dawson has produced albums by Jim Byrnes, Kelly Joe Phelps, Old Man Luedecke, The Sojourners, and The Deep Dark Woods. He has won two Juno Awards. He frequently collaborates with keyboardist Chris Gestrin, bassist Keith Lowe and drummer Georr Hicks. He has been a member of the duo Zubot & Dawson, and of the group The Great Uncles of the Revolution. Oliver Schroer
Oliver Schroer (June 18, 1956 – July 3, 2008) was a Canadian fiddler, composer, and music producer. Early life Oliver Schroer grew up in Vandeleur, Ontario, a small farming community near Markdale in rural Grey County. He attended Grey Highlands Secondary School in Flesherton, where he played French horn in the school band. He also took private violin lessons. He graduated in 1974, having earned several academic awards. Schroer was dissatisfied with university life, and began to busk in Toronto, playing guitar in the Toronto subway. After several years, he picked up his violin again, but to play fiddle rather than classical music. Eventually, he began to record, and in 1993 released his first album, ''Jigzup'', which was nominated for a Juno Award in the ''Best Roots or Traditional Album'' category.
