2nd Bagmati Provincial Assembly
The second Bagmati Provincial Assembly was elected by the 2022 provincial elections on 20 November 2022. 110 members were elected to the assembly, 66 of whom were elected through direct elections and 44 of whom were elected through the party list proportional representation system. 1st Bagmati Provincial Assembly
The first Bagmati Provincial Assembly was elected by the 2017 provincial elections. 110 members were elected to the assembly, 66 of whom were elected through direct elections and 44 of whom were elected through the party list proportional representation system. The term of the assembly started on 1 February 2018 and ended in September 2022. Dormani Poudel and Astalaxmi Shakya served as the chief ministers from the CPN (UML) and Rajendra Prasad Pandey served as chief minister from CPN (Unified Socialist) during the term of the assembly. The chief minister of Bagmati Province is the chief executive of the Nepal state of Bagmati Province. In accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, the governor is a state's ''de jure'' head, but ''de facto'' executive authority rests with the chief minister. Following elections to the Povincial Assembly of Bagmati Province, the state's governor usually invites the party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form the government. Proportional representation (PR) refers to a type of electoral system under which subgroups of an electorate are reflected proportionately in the elected body. An electoral list is a grouping of candidates for election, usually found in proportional or mixed electoral systems, but also in some plurality electoral systems.
