2nd Army Division (Sweden)
The Lower Northern Army Division ( sv, Nedre norra arméfördelningen, 2. förd), was a division of the Swedish Army which operated in various forms from 1941 to 1997. Its staff was located in Östersund Garrison in Östersund. History The Lower Northern Army Division was raised on 1 August 1941 as the XII Division (''XII. fördelningen''), a doubling division of the II Army Division (''II. arméfördelningen''). The army division was directly subordinate to the military commander of the II Military District, while the Jämtland Ranger Regiment was responsible for raising and mobilization of the army division staff. On 1 October 1966, the designation was changed from being given in Roman numerals to Arabic numerals, that is, the division was termed the 12th Division (''12. fördelningen''). Östersund Garrison
Östersund (; sma, Staare) is an urban area (city) in Jämtland in the middle of Sweden. It is the seat of Östersund Municipality and the capital of Jämtland County. Östersund is located at the shores of Sweden's fifth-largest lake, Storsjön, opposite the island Frösön. It is the only city in Jämtland. The northern part of the urban area is located inside of the municipality of Krokom. Östersund is the region's cultural and economical centre and by tradition a city of trade and commerce. The city had one of the most extensive garrisons in Sweden prior to its closure in the early-21st century. Norrland Artillery Regiment
The Norrland Artillery Regiment ( sv, Norrlands artilleriregemente), designation A 4, was a Swedish Army artillery regiment that traced its origins back to the 19th century. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the provinces of Norrland. The regiment was disbanded in 1997. From 1998 to 2000, the Boden Artillery Regiment was known by this name. History The regiment was created in 1893 by splitting off two batteries from 1st Svea Artillery Regiment and two batteries from 1st Göta Artillery Regiment which formed six batteries of Norrland Artillery Regiment. The regiment was garrisoned in Östersund but a detachment in Boden was created in 1910, this detachment was split off in 1928 and created Norrbotten Artillery Corps.
