It was matched up to a melody by Barry Manilow and released in 1984, peaking at number 6 in the ''Billboard'' Adult Contemporary chart. Background In his last year, as he was dying from brain cancer, Mercer became extremely fond of Manilow, in part because Manilow's first hit record was the song " Mandy", which was the nickname of Mercer's daughter Amanda. After Mercer's death, his widow, Ginger Mehan Mercer, arranged to give some unfinished lyrics he had written to Manilow to possibly develop into complete songs. Among these was "When October Goes." Manilow composed the song with Mercer's lyric and issued it as a single in 1984. The song first appeared on Manilow's album '' 2:00 AM Paradise Cafe''. This is also the title of an album put out by Rounder Records and produced by Christine Lavin, which features the title song and other fall-related songs by various singers/songwriters. ...

I Made It Through The Rain
"I Made It Through the Rain" is a song that became a hit after it was recorded by American singer Barry Manilow, also included on his 1980 album, ''Barry''. The song was originally recorded in 1979 by its co-writer Gerard Kenny who composed it with Drey Shepperd about a struggling musician who never gives up. Manilow heard the song and revised the lyric with Jack Feldman and Bruce Sussman to make the song about the everyday person's struggles, rather than those of a profession. According to ''Billboard'', "I Made It Through the Rain" "sustains a rather contemplative mood with gradual building and finally one of Manilow's most dynamic finishes. ''Record World'' praised Manilow's "resounding vocal performance" and the song's "string grandeur." In the U.S., Manilow's version peaked at number 10 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 (his 11th and last top ten on that chart to date) and at number 4 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
