In November 2012, Kim began his solo career with his first extended play, ''Another Me (Kim Sung-kyu EP), Another Me'', which debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart. His second extended play, ''27 (Kim Sung-kyu EP), 27'' (2015), debuted at number one on the Gaon Album Chart and number eight on the US ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' World Albums chart, and yielded two South Korean top-ten singles "The Answer" and "Kontrol".
