Costume Designers Guild Award For Excellence In Period Film
The Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period Film is one of the annual awards given by the Costume Designers Guild. At the 1st Costume Designers Guild Awards ceremony (celebrating excellence in film and television of 1998), all films, regardless of genre, competed in a combined Excellence in Film category. Among the inaugural nominees, three were period dramas, except for ''The Truman Show'', which was the only modern-set film recognized, while the eventual winner, '' Pleasantville'', was a fantasy film. The award was split into Excellence in Contemporary Film and Excellence in Period/Fantasy Film at subsequent ceremony. Since 2005, the latter category was further divided into Excellence in Period Film and Excellence in Fantasy Film (renamed Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film in 2017), with each genre receiving its own award. Janty Yates (born 1950) is a British costume designer for film and television. In 2001, she won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for ''Gladiator'' (2000). She has also received nominations for BAFTA Awards, Satellite Awards, and Saturn Awards. She is a frequent collaborator with English director Ridley Scott, having worked with him fourteen times . Suttirat Anne Larlarb (born 1971) is an American costume designer, art director and production designer. Life Larlarb's parents are both Thai, and came to the US as Fulbright scholars. Her father went on to become a heart surgeon. Larlarb was born in North Carolina and raised in Ventura County, California. She was interested in drawing from an early age, and attended Stanford University where she studied studio art, before winning a Jacob K.
