Varsity Stadium
Varsity Stadium is an outdoor collegiate stadium located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the "Varsity Centre & Arena", a sports complex at the University of Toronto's St. George Campus. Athletic events have been hosted on the site since 1898; the current stadium was built in 2007 to replace the original permanent stadium built in 1911. Frank Smith (Canadian Football)
Frank Smith (born c. 1931) is a Canadian former gridiron football player and coach. He played professionally for the Edmonton Eskimos. He won the Grey Cup with them in 1954, 1955 and 1956. Smith attended Olympic College, where he played junior college football. Smith coached football at Eastern Washington University, Wenatchee Valley College, and Montana State University. In 1973, he took a position at the University of British Columbia, coaching until 1994, during which time he won five conference titles and Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships in 1982 and 1986. His final record with UBC was 126–90–4. Michael Soles
Michael Soles (November 8, 1966 – July 7, 2021) was a Canadian professional football player who was a fullback in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at McGill University, where he was a two-time All-Canadian. Early life and collegiate football career Soles was born in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, on November 8, 1966. He attended St. Thomas High School in his hometown, where he played high school football. He studied history and economics at McGill University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1989. As a Redman, he was honoured as a conference all-star three times and was a two-time All-Canadian. He also rushed for a then-team record 2,231 yards in 20 regular season games. The Vanier Cup () is the trophy awarded annually to the champion Canadian football team in U Sports, the governing body for university sports in Canada. The U Sports football champion is determined in a one-game playoff (the Vanier Cup game), played by the winners of the Uteck Bowl and the Mitchell Bowl. In turn, the participating teams are determined by the winners of four bowl games: the Loney Bowl ( AUS), Hardy Cup (Canada West), Dunsmore Cup ( RSEQ), and Yates Cup ( OUA). The Vanier Cup game is played at a neutral site that changes every year; the hosting university is determined months or years in advance. U Sports football is the highest level of amateur play of Canadian football and operates under the auspices of U Sports, Canada's governing body for university sports. McGill Redmen Football
The McGill Redbirds football team represents McGill University in Canadian football in U Sports and is based in Montreal, Quebec. The program is one of the oldest in all of Canada, having begun organized competition in 1874 McGill Redmen football team, 1874. The team won its first collegiate championship in 1902 in Canadian football, 1902 and also won in 1912, 1913, 1919, 1928, 1938 and 1960 prior to the inauguration of the Vanier Cup in 1965. The UBC Thunderbirds are the athletic teams that represent the University of British Columbia. In Canadian intercollegiate competition, the Thunderbirds are the most successful athletic program both regionally in the Canada West Universities Athletic Association, and nationally in U Sports, winning 119 national titles.
