203rd Rifle Division
The 203rd Rifle Division was an infantry division of the Soviet Union's Red Army. World War II The division was formed in the Kuban near Labinsk, Kurgan, Krasnodar Krai, Kurgan and Mikhailovka (Krasnodar Krai), Mikhailovka from February to 20 May 1942. During the second half of May the division left the Kuban. At the end of the month at Frolovo, the division received missing weapons and vehicles. It continued training at a faster pace. The division then moved to the front and until August built defensive positions on the Don River (Russia), Don northwest of Vyoshenskaya. On 18 August, the division received orders to cross the Don near Elanskaya village. Three days were spent on preparations for the assault. The attack began on the night of 22 August. The crossing was reportedly so fast that opposing Italian troops were unable to put up much resistance. 203rd Security Division
The 203rd Security Division, was a rear-security division in the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany. The unit was deployed in German-occupied areas of the Soviet Union, in the Army Group Centre Rear Area and was responsible for large-scale war crimes and atrocities. Operational history The division was formed in June 1942 on the basis of the 203rd Security Brigade that was itself formed in December 1941. It operated in the Army Group Centre Rear Area, of the occupied regions of the Soviet Union behind Army Group Centre's front lines. Its duties included security of communications and supply lines, economic exploitation and combatting irregular fighters (partisans) in Wehrmacht's rear areas. The so-called anti-partisan operations in "bandit-infested" areas amounted to destruction of villages, plunder and enslavement of civilian population.
