2025 Tibet Earthquake
On 7 January 2025 at 09:05 China Standard Time, CST (UTC+8), an earthquake measuring struck Tingri County, located in the Shigatse prefecture-level city of the Tibet Autonomous Region of Southwestern China. Between 126 and 400 people were killed and 338 were injured in the region. The earthquake also injured 13 people in Nepal and caused minor damage in North India, Northern India. Shaking was felt across South Asia. The earthquake was the largest in China since the 2021 Maduo earthquake, Maduo earthquake in May 2021 and the deadliest since the 2023 Jishishan earthquake, Jishishan earthquake in December 2023. Tingri County
Tingri County (; zh, s=定日县, t=定日縣, p=Dìngrì Xiàn) is a county under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Xigazê in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The county comprises the upper valley of the Bum-chu or Arun River, with the valleys of its tributaries, the valleys of the Rongshar Tsangpo and the Lapchi Gang Tsanpo which flow south into Nepal. It is bordered on the south by the main range of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest (Tib. Jomolangma), Makalu and Cho Oyu. The present county administration is located at Shelkar, about east of Tingri (town). List Of Aftershocks Of The April 2015 Nepal Earthquake
The following is a list of aftershocks that occurred after the earthquake in Nepal on 25 April 2015. There was some seismic activity in the Jumla district before the main shock. However, they are not foreshocks to the main shock. , over 304 aftershocks have occurred. The large number of aftershocks after the earthquake is considered normal by seismologists. According to seismologist Roger Musson, the standard pattern for aftershocks is that the biggest aftershock will be one day after, and one magnitude less. Thus, the 6.7 magnitude aftershock on 26 April 2015 following the 7.8 magnitude main shock would fit this pattern.
