2025 San Diego FC Season
The 2025 season is the first season for San Diego FC in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight of professional club soccer in the United States. San Diego FC was announced as an expansion team on May 18, 2023, under the ownership of Egyptian businessman Mohamed Mansour and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, a local indigenous tribe. The team will play their home matches at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, which it will share with San Diego Wave FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the San Diego State Aztecs football team. Former FC Dallas and United States men's national team assistant coach Mikey Varas was hired as the club's first head coach on September 16, 2024. The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is a women's professional Association football, soccer league and the highest level of the United States soccer league system#Women's leagues, United States soccer league system (alongside the USL Super League). The league comprises 14 teams (16 in 2026). It is owned by the teams and sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation. The NWSL is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Right To Dream Academy
Right to Dream is a youth association football academy system based in Ghana. It started in 1999 as a residential school and training center in Accra. It is owned by the Mansour Group. It is now a multi-club multi-academy group with branches in Egypt as well as the Mansour Group's professional teams, FC Nordsjælland in Denmark, FC Masar in Egypt and San Diego FC in the United States. In sports, a loan involves a particular player being able to temporarily play for a club other than the one to which they are currently contracted. Loan deals may last from a few weeks to a full season, sometimes persisting for multiple seasons at a time. Designated Player Rule
The Designated Player Rule, nicknamed the Beckham Rule, allows Major League Soccer franchises to sign up to three players that would be considered outside their salary cap (either by offering the player higher wages or by paying a transfer fee for the player). The rule, which was adopted ahead of the 2007 MLS season, enables teams to compete for star players in the international football market. 2025 MLS SuperDraft
The 2025 MLS SuperDraft was the 26th edition of the MLS SuperDraft, a sports draft to select amateur, usually collegiate, soccer players that are not affiliated with an MLS club, or college soccer players that had their homegrown player rights relinquished by their parent MLS club. The draft was held on December 20, 2024, marking the third year in a row that the draft was held in December. Despite the draft being held in 2024, the draft retained the 2025 branding. 2024 MLS Expansion Draft
The 2024 MLS Expansion Draft was a special draft (sports), draft for the Major League Soccer expansion team San Diego FC that was held on December 11, 2024. The list of eligible players was revealed on December 10, 2024, which included 354 players from the 29 other MLS teams. San Diego FC selected five players in the draft. The draft was conducted live at the Mission Valley (shopping mall), Mission Valley shopping mall adjacent to San Diego FC's apparel store. It was streamed online and televised on KSWB-TV, KSWB.
