2025 Players' Championship
The 2025 AMJ Players' Championship was held from April 8 to 13 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ontario. It was the fifth and final Grand Slam event of the 2024–25 curling season. For the first time in the history of the event, the finals for both the men's and women's were rematches of their respective 2025 World Championships. In the men's event, World Champion Bruce Mouat and his Scottish rink took on Yannick Schwaller from Switzerland, while World women's champion Rachel Homan of Canada faced Silvana Tirinzoni and her team from Switzerland. In the women's final, Tirinzoni took her revenge against Homan, beating the Ottawa-based rink 5–4, winning her fifth career Slam title in the process. Pierre Charette
Pierre G. "The Duffer" Charette (born June 23, 1955) is a Canadian curler from Gatineau, Quebec. He currently coaches the Silvana Tirinzoni rink and the Jean-Michel Ménard rink. Career Born in Masson, Quebec, Charette has played in thirteen Briers, and was the first curler to have played every position (including alternate) at a Brier. He skipped teams in 1989, 1993 and 2007; played third for Guy Hemmings in 1998 and 1999, played second for Don Westphal in 1997, played lead for Westphal in 1996 and was the alternate for Kevin Adams in 1991, Ted Butler in 1992 and Jean-Michel Ménard in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. Charette's best performance at the Brier was the two years he played for Hemmings, where they lost in the Brier final on both occasions. John Cullen (curler)
Barry John Cullen (born August 2, 1964) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played ten seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played college ice hockey for the Boston University Terriers, where he was a standout player, and is the school's all-time leading scorer. After the Buffalo Sabres selected him in the 1986 NHL supplemental draft but chose not to offer him a contract, Cullen signed with the Flint Spirits of the International Hockey League (IHL) for the 1987–88 season, where he was named the IHL's co-Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player after leading the league in scoring. His career was halted in 1997 when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He attempted a brief comeback in 1998 after an 18-month battle with the disease, for which the NHL awarded him the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, before retiring to serve as an assistant coach for a year with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Matt Bonner
Matthew Robert Bonner (born April 5, 1980), also known as the Red Rocket or Red Mamba, is an American former professional basketball player. Bonner played college basketball for the University of Florida before being selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 45th overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. During his career Bonner played for the Toronto Raptors and the San Antonio Spurs with whom he won two NBA championships. He is the only player in NBA history to be born in New Hampshire. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and Doubles curling, mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a World Wheelchair Curling Championship, world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel
Benoît François Dominique Schwarz-van Berkel ( Schwarz; born 19 August 1991) is a Swiss curler. He currently throws fourth stones for skip Yannick Schwaller. He is a World Junior Champion, won a gold medal with the Swiss team at the 2013 European Curling Championships in Stavanger, and has also won a Grand Slam of Curling title at the 2018 Canadian Open. Schwarz-van Berkel has also earned multiple medals at both the European Curling Championship and World Men's Curling Championship, and was part of the bronze medal winning Swiss team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (formerly branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that were formerly part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least Canadian dollar, CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels.
