On 14 February 2025, Vice President of the United States, United States Vice President JD Vance delivered a speech at the 61st Munich Security Conference. In his speech, Vance criticized the European Union leaders for what he described as Democratic backsliding, backsliding on freedom of speech and democracy. Hotel Bayerischer Hof is a luxury hotel located at Promenadeplatz 2–6 in the Altstadt (Munich), Altstadt district of Munich in Bavaria, Germany. Established in 1841, the hotel remains a destination for celebrities and State visit, guests of state in Munich. It is the venue for the annual Munich Security Conference. History The Bayerischer Hof opened on October 15, 1841. It was constructed by Joseph Anton von Maffei and designed by Friedrich von Gärtner. The original structure had about 100 rooms and two banquet halls. Some of its renowned guests included Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Sigmund Freud. In 1897 the hotel was purchased for 2,850,000 Marks by Herrmann Volkhardt, who purchased additional adjoining properties and rebuilt the hotel in the Renaissance Revival architecture, Neo-Renaissance style.
