Pulitzer Prize
The Pulitzer Prizes () are 23 annual awards given by Columbia University in New York City for achievements in the United States in "journalism, arts and letters". They were established in 1917 by the will of Joseph Pulitzer, who had made his fortune as a newspaper publisher. Prizes in 2024 were awarded in these categories, with three finalists named for each: Each winner receives a certificate and $15,000 in cash, except in the Public Service category, where a gold medal is awarded. History Newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer gave money in his will to Columbia University to launch a journalism school and establish the Pulitzer Prize. It allocated $250,000 to the prize and scholarships. He specified "four awards in journalism, four in letters and drama, one in education, and four traveling scholarships". Tessa Hulls
Tessa Hulls (born 1984 ) is an American graphic novelist, painter, journalist, illustrator, and writer. She won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir or Autobiography, Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, and National Books Critics Circle John Leonard Prize for her book, ''Feeding Ghosts: A Graphic Memoir''. Life Hulls grew up in Northern California. She graduated from Reed College with an art degree and her senior these focused on aesthetics of community and rebellion. She was a member of the Seattle CHOP protest group. Hulls is an active traveller, who has adapted some of her voyages into comic journals. In 2023, she published her autobiographical graphic novel ''Feeding Ghosts: A Graphic Memoir'', about the troubled lives of her Chinese-American grandmother, mother and herself. The Order of Orange-Nassau () is a civil and military Dutch order of chivalry founded on 4 April 1892 by the queen regent, Emma of the Netherlands. The order is a chivalric order open to "everyone who has performed acts of special merits for society.” These are people who deserve appreciation and recognition from society for the special way in which they have carried out their activities. Titles, prefixes, or post-nominals are not used in the Netherlands – the only exception being the Military William Order. Robert Van Der Kroft
Robert van der Kroft (born Haarlem, 1 April 1952) is a Dutch comics artist, musician and disc jockey. He has been drawing the longstanding ''Sjors & Sjimmie'' comic strip since 1977, and '' Claire'' since 1988. Beside his work for other comics and commercial work, he co-founded the Dutch comics magazines '' De Vrije Balloen'' in 1975 and '' Zone 5300'' in 1994. More recently he has been promoting the Cross Comix Festival in Rotterdam since 2016. Biography Van der Kroft was born and raised in Rotterdam as son of an advertising illustrator. From early on he was inspired by comics, particularly the works of Frans Piët, André Franquin, François Walthéry, Roy Crane and Hergé. Van der Kroft started drawing at his high school newspaper. He got admitted to the Rotterdam Art Academy, where he only spend less than two months the first two years. Pope Leo XIV (born Robert Francis Prevost, September 14, 1955) has been head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State since May 2025. He is the first pope to have been born in the United States and North America, the first to hold American and Peruvian citizenship, the first from the Order of Saint Augustine, and the second from the Americas (after his predecessor Francis). They are a byproduct of merchandising around a certain media star or franchise and have existed since the mass media and comics came into existence in the 19th century. Celebrity comics are usually not held in high esteem by critics, because of their purely commercial nature. They are solely created to capitalize on media trends and therefore published so quickly and cheaply that drawings and narratives tend to be of very low quality. Definition Celebrity comics are usually written and drawn for commercial purposes. Publishers try to cash in on the fame of a well known radio, TV, film star or series by launching a comic book or an entire comic book series about these media stars. The Adventures Of Nero
''The Adventures of Nero'' or ''Nero'' was a Belgium, Belgian comic strip drawn by Marc Sleen and the name of Nero (comic book character), its main character. The original title ranged from ''De Avonturen van Detective Van Zwam, Detectief Van Zwam'' in 1947 to ''De Avonturen van Nero en zijn Hoed'' in 1950, and finally ''De Avonturen van Nero & Co'' from 1951. It ran in continuous syndication until 2002. From 1947 until 1993 it was all drawn by Sleen himself. From 1992 until 2002 Dirk Stallaert took over the drawing while Sleen kept inventing the stories. Together with ''Suske en Wiske'' and ''Jommeke'', "Nero" is regarded as the Big Three of Flanders, Flemish comics.
