2025 FIDE Circuit
The 2025 FIDE Circuit is a system comprising the top chess tournaments in 2025, which serves as a qualification path for the Candidates Tournament 2026. Players receive points based on their performance and the strength of the tournament. A player's final Circuit score is the sum of their seven best results of the year. The winner of the Circuit qualifies for the Candidates Tournament 2026. Tournament eligibility A FIDE-rated individual standard tournament is eligible for the Circuit if it meets the following criteria: * Finish between 1 January 2025 and for National Championships, zonal and continental tournaments as well as traditional open tournaments (with 50 or more players), 21 December 2025. A chess tournament is a series of chess games played competitively to determine a winning individual or team. Since the first international chess tournament in London, 1851, chess tournaments have become the standard form of chess competition among serious players. Today, the most recognized chess tournaments for individual competition include the Linares chess tournament (now defunct) and the Tata Steel chess tournament. The largest team chess tournament is the Chess Olympiad, in which players compete for their country's team in the same fashion as the Olympic Games. Chess career In June 2022, Daneshvar was the winner of the Iranian Men's Final Chess Championship, ahead of top seed Seyed Khalil Mousavi. European Individual Chess Championship
The European Individual Chess Championship is a chess tournament organised by the European Chess Union. It was established in 2000 and has since then taken place on a yearly basis. Apart from determining the European champions (open and women's), another objective of this tournament is to determine a number of players who qualify for the FIDE World Cup and the knockout Women's World Championship. Mode of play The event consists of two separate tournaments; an open event, and a women's event. Female players may participate in the open section. Both are a Swiss system tournament, with a varying number of rounds. Historically, the only exception to this was the first Women's Championship tournament in 2000, which was held as a knockout tournament. The Aeroflot Open is an annual open chess tournament played in Moscow and sponsored by the airline Aeroflot. The Prague International Chess Festival, abbreviated as PICF, is an annual chess tournament that takes place in Prague, Czech Republic, since 2019. It consists of several separate groups, including Masters, Challengers, Futures, held with the round-robin system, and an open tournament, held with the Swiss system, accompanied by a series of side tournaments. The winner of Challengers group receives an invitation to the Masters group the following year, while the winner of the open tournament receives an invitation to the Challengers group. Pranav Venkatesh (born 13 October 2006), also known as Buddy Pranav, is an Indian chess grandmaster. Chess career Pranav began playing chess at the age of 6, and had several coaches including Visweswaran Kameswaran. He obtained his first two GM norms at the Serbia Open in 2021 and in the Vezerkepzo GM tournament in Budapest, Hungary in June 2022. In August 2022, Pranav obtained his final norm by winning the Limpedea Open in Baia Mare, Romania championship, becoming the 75th grandmaster from India and the 27th grandmaster from the state of Tamil Nadu.
