2024–25 WNBL Season
The 2024–25 WNBL season was the 45th season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Southside Flyers were the defending champions, but they failed to qualify for Finals this season. The Bendigo Spirit won their third championship title after defeating Townsville, 2–0 in the Grand Final series. Cygnett remains as the WNBL's naming rights partner for the season, after signing a three-year deal in September 2022. In August 2024, the season structure was confirmed to again feature an 84-game regular season, with a best-of-three Semi-Final & Grand Final series' to follow. All games were confirmed to again be broadcast via 9Now and ESPN, for the third consecutive season. This season saw the WNBL's return to free-to-air television for the first time since 2019, with the addition of one game broadcast weekly on 9Go!. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is a professional women's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Australia composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the Women's sports, women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL). History Founding of the WNBL In August 1980, West Adelaide Bearcat Coach Ted Owens (basketball), Ted Powell, after an encouraging exchange of letters with St Kilda'Coach Bill Palmer called a meeting at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel in Adelaide. Marianna Tolo
Marianna Tolo (born 2 July 1989) is an Australian basketball player. She has played the majority of her career in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and has been a member of the Australia women's national basketball team. She has played for the Los Angeles Sparks in the Women's National Basketball Association, WNBA. Personal life Tolo was born in Mackay, Queensland, on 2 July 1989. At tall, she is one of the tallest players on the Canberra Capitals' roster. In March 2011, she attended the Sport for Women Day at the University of Canberra and participated in an outdoor Zumba class alongside some of her University of Canberra Capitals teammates. Bendat Basketball Centre
The WA Basketball Centre (also known by its sponsored name, the Bendat Basketball Centre) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Perth, Western Australia, catering primarily for basketball. The stadium features eight multi-sport courts, including two show courts with 1,100 permanent seats and 900 retractable seats primarily used for basketball. Facilities also cater for netball, volleyball and badminton. The stadium also holds a function room on the first floor for up to 270 people, with bar and kitchen facilities. The stadium houses the offices of Basketball Western Australia, Perry Lakes Basketball Association, and the Perth Wildcats. Maddison Rocci
Maddison Louise Rocci (born 1 June 1998) is an Australian professional basketball player. She played for the Southside Flyers of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) between 2021 and 2025. Early life Rocci was born in Melbourne, Victoria, in the suburb of East Melbourne. While at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, Rocci attended Lake Ginninderra College. Professional career WNBL Rocci joined the Canberra Capitals of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) for the 2017–18 season. Alice Kunek
Alice Kunek (born 6 January 1991) is an Australian-Irish professional basketball player for Southside Flyers, the current champions of the WNBL. Professional career WNBL Kunek began her WNBL career at the AIS alongside fellow up and coming players. She spent three seasons at the AIS, before moving signing with the Bulleen Boomers, where she played for three seasons. In her first season with the Boomers, she helped them take home their inaugural WNBL Championship, averaging 9.9 points per game. In 2013, Kunek left the Boomers and signed with the Dandenong Rangers. In her first season with the Rangers, Kunek averaged a career high 15.9 points per game. Alex Wilson (basketball)
Alex Brooke "Ally" Wilson (born 21 March 1994) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Mandurah Magic of the NBL1 West. Career WNBL Wilson debuted in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in the 2010–11 season for the Adelaide Lightning. Her next stint came with the Townsville Fire in 2013–14 and 2014–15, where she won WNBL Rookie of the Year in 2013–14 and a championship in 2014–15. In 2015, Wilson joined the Sydney Uni Flames. Anneli Maley
Anneli Maley (born 1 September 1998) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Perth Redbacks of the NBL1 West. She is also contracted with the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She made her WNBL debut in 2016 and then spent two seasons in the United States playing college basketball for the Oregon Ducks and TCU Horned Frogs. Perth Lynx
The Perth Lynx are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Lynx compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play their home games at both WA Basketball Centre, Bendat Basketball Centre and Perth High Performance Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Northern Star Resources Perth Lynx. The Lynx were established in 1988 as the Perth Breakers. Bendigo Stadium
Bendigo Stadium (also known as Red Energy Arena under naming rights) is an Australian sports and entertainment centre in Bendigo, Victoria. The stadium is home to the Bendigo Braves (NBL1) and Bendigo Spirit (WNBL). Brianna Turner (born July 5, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for the Indiana Fever of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college women's basketball for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. She is a native of Pearland, Texas.
