2024–2025 Bahri Offensive
The 2024–2025 Bahri offensive was a military campaign conducted by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) beginning in September 2024 to recapture strategic areas of Bahri (also known as Khartoum North) from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the ongoing Sudanese civil war. The offensive operated in conjunction with the Battle of Khartoum. Background Prior to the offensive, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) maintained control over significant portions of Khartoum's metropolitan area, including large sections of Khartoum Bahri. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) had initiated a series of military operations in the region beginning in December 2023, starting with an offensive in central Omdurman. Sudanese Civil War (2023–present)
A civil war began on 15 April 2023 between two rival factions of the military government of Sudan. The conflict involves the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (commonly known as Hemedti), who also leads the broader Janjaweed coalition. Several smaller armed groups have also taken part. Hemedti
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (born 1974 or 1975), commonly known by the mononym Hemedti, is a Sudanese military officer and the current head of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). A Janjaweed leader from the Rizeigat tribe in Darfur, he was the Deputy head of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) following the 2019 Sudanese coup d'état. Since 2013, Hemedti has commanded the RSF. He was considered by ''The Economist'' to be the most powerful person in Sudan as of early July 2019. On 21 August 2019, the TMC transferred power to the civilian–military Transitional Sovereignty Council, of which Hemedti is a member. Volker Türk (born 27 August 1965) is an Austrian lawyer and United Nations official. He has been the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights since October 2022. Kordofan ( ') is a former province of central Sudan. In 1994 it was divided into three new federal states: North Kordofan, South Kordofan and West Kordofan. In August 2005, West Kordofan State was abolished and its territory divided between North and South Kordofan States, as part of the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement.
