2024 Wuhan Open
The 2024 Wuhan Open (also known as Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open for sponsorship reasons) is a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts between October 7–13, 2024. It is the 7th edition of the Wuhan Open, and part of the WTA 1000 tournaments of the 2024 WTA Tour. It is the first edition of the tournament since 2019, with the intervening editions cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament is held at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center in Wuhan Wuhan; is the capital of Hubei, China. WTA 1000 Tournaments
The WTA 1000 tournaments are a category of tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour, governed by the Women's Tennis Association. The old WTA Premier tournaments, WTA Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 tournaments merged into a single highest tier implemented in the 2021 schedule reorganization. Until 2024, only four of the nine WTA 1000 tournaments were mandatory, when the category expanded to ten mandatory tournaments. When launched in 2021, the prize money for winning a WTA 1000 tournament was approximately $1,000,000. This has since risen to almost $9,000,000 at some tournaments as of 2024. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are 1,000. This compares to 2,000 points for winning a Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam tournament ("major"), up to 1,500 points for winning the WTA Finals, 500 points for winning a WTA 500 tournament, and 250 for winning a WTA 250 tournament. Erin Routliffe
Erin Hope Routliffe (born 11 April 1995) is a New Zealand professional tennis player who previously represented Canada. She became world No. 1 in doubles on 15 July 2024. Routliffe won a major doubles title at the 2023 US Open partnering Gabriela Dabrowski. She became the second New Zealand woman to win a major in the Open Era, after Judy Connor won the women's doubles title at the 1979 Australian Open.
