The 2024 World Open (officially the 2024 Huading Nylon World Open) was a professional snooker tournament that took place from 18 to 24 March 2024 at the Yushan Sport Centre in Yushan County, Yushan, China. The fifth edition of the World Open (snooker), World Open held in Yushan since 2016 World Open (snooker), 2016, it marked the return of the event to the tour after a three-season hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. World Open (snooker)
The World Open is a professional ranking snooker tournament. Throughout its history, the tournament has undergone numerous revamps and name changes. It started out in 1982 as the ''Professional Players Tournament'', but for most of the 1980s and 1990s it was known as the ''Grand Prix''. It was renamed the '' LG Cup'' from 2001 to 2003 before reverting to the ''Grand Prix'' until 2010. Since then it has been known as the ''World Open''. During 2006 and 2007, it was played in a unique round-robin format, more similar to association football and rugby tournaments than the knock-out systems usually played in snooker. The knock-out format returned in 2008 with an FA Cup-style draw. The random draw was abandoned after the 2010 edition. Judd Trump is the defending champion. 2024 Tour Championship
The 2024 Tour Championship is an upcoming professional snooker tournament that is scheduled to take place from 1 to 7 April 2024 at the Manchester Central in Manchester, England. The 16th ranking event of the 2023–24 season, it is the last of three events in the Players Series, following the World Grand Prix and the Players Championship. Organised by the World Snooker Tour, the event will be broadcast by ITV Sport domestically, by Eurosport in Europe, and by other broadcasters worldwide. The winner will receive £150,000 from a total prize fund of £380,000. The event will feature the top 12 players in the one-year ranking list as it stood after the World Open. Stephen Hendry
Stephen Gordon Hendry (born 13 January 1969) is a Scottish professional snooker player who dominated the sport during the 1990s, becoming one of the most successful players in its history. After turning professional in 1985 at age 16, Hendry rose rapidly through the snooker world rankings, reaching number four in the world by the end of his third professional season. 2019–20 Snooker Season
The 2019–20 snooker season was a series of professional snooker tournaments played between 9 May 2019 and 22 August 2020. In total, 47 events were held during the season: however, the ending of the season was highly disrupted by the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. 18 world ranking tournaments were planned to take place, but only 17 were played. An event was held in Austria, the first time in any snooker season, while the 2020 China Open was cancelled. The Tour Championship and the World Snooker Championship were postponed, and the Gibraltar Open played with no audience. The season contained 128 professional tour players, 35 of which had been given new two-year places on the tour from a combination of invitations and qualifying events. Steve Davis (born 22 August 1957) is an English retired professional snooker player who is currently a commentator, musician, DJ, and author. Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (, ; born 18 April 1985) is a Thai professional snooker player. He has won one ranking event, the 2019 Snooker Shoot Out, and finished as runner-up in the 2019 World Open.
