2024 WTA Finals
The 2024 WTA Finals was the professional women's year-end championship tennis tournament run by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). It was the 53rd edition of the singles event and the 48th edition of the doubles competition and took place between 2 and 9 November. The tournament was contested by the eight highest-ranked singles players and doubles teams of the 2024 WTA Tour. It took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marking its return to Asia for the first time since 2019, and the fifth consecutive finals to be held in a different city (Shenzhen in 2019, Guadalajara in 2021, Fort Worth in 2022, and Cancún in 2023). Zheng Qinwen
Zheng Qinwen ( zh, , p=Zhèng Qīnwén, s=郑钦文; IPA: ; born 8 October 2002) is a Chinese professional tennis player. She has been ranked world No. 4 in women's singles by the WTA, achieved in June 2025, and is only the second Chinese player to reach the top 10 after Li Na. Zheng has won five career singles titles, including the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Asian tennis player to win an Olympic gold medal in singles. Zheng won her first WTA Tour tournament in 2023 at the Palermo Ladies Open, successfully defending the title the following year. China Open (tennis)
The China Open is a hardcourt tennis tournament organized by the Chinese Tennis Association annually at the China National Tennis Center in Beijing, China. It is held in late September and early October. The women's event is a WTA 1000 tournaments, WTA 1000 event on the WTA Tour, while the men's is an ATP 500 event on the ATP Tour. The total prize money for the 2023 tournament is US$11.62 million, the highest for tournaments of the same level. The tournament was first held in 1993, discontinued in 1998, and reinstated in 2004. In 2006, the China Open became the first tournament outside the United States to use the Hawk-Eye system in match play. The Canadian Open (; also known as the Canada Masters, and currently branded as the National Bank Open presented by Rogers for sponsorship reasons) is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. It is played on outdoor hardcourts. The men's competition is an ATP Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour, and the women's competition is a WTA 1000 event on the WTA Tour. The Italian Open () is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Rome, Italy. It is played on clay courts at the Foro Italico, and is held during the second week of May. The tournament is part of the ATP 1000 events on the ATP Tour and part of the WTA 1000 events on the WTA Tour. The two events were combined in 2011. History The Italian tennis championship was first held in 1930 in Milan at the Tennis Club and was initiated by Count Alberto Bonacossa. The Miami Open (also known as the Miami Masters and as the Miami Open presented by Itaú for sponsorship reasons) is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Miami Gardens, Florida, United States. It is played on outdoor hardcourts at the Hard Rock Stadium, and is held in late March and early April. The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Indian Wells, California, United States. It is played on outdoor hardcourts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and is held in March. WTA 1000 Tournaments
The WTA 1000 tournaments are a category of tennis tournaments on the WTA Tour, governed by the Women's Tennis Association. The old WTA Premier tournaments, WTA Premier Mandatory and Premier 5 tournaments merged into a single highest tier implemented in the 2021 schedule reorganization. Until 2024, only four of the nine WTA 1000 tournaments were mandatory, when the category expanded to ten mandatory tournaments. When launched in 2021, the prize money for winning a WTA 1000 tournament was approximately $1,000,000. This has since risen to almost $9,000,000 at some tournaments as of 2024. The ranking points awarded to the winners of these tournaments are 1,000. The Grand Slam in tennis is the achievement of winning all four major championships in one discipline in a calendar year. WTA 125 tournaments are an international series of professional women's tennis tournaments organized by the Women's Tennis Association since 2012. Sometimes called the WTA Challenger tour (analogous to the men's ATP Challenger Series), 2015 it is the second highest level of women's competition, below the top-tier WTA Tour, and above the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour tournaments. Players who succeed in the WTA 125s earn sufficient overall WTA rankings, WTA ranking points to become eligible for the main draw or qualifying draw entry of WTA Tour tournaments.
