Presidential primary elections were held in Uruguay on 30 June 2024 in order to nominate the presidential candidate for every List of political parties in Uruguay, political party in the 2024 Uruguayan general election, general election on 27 October 2024. 2020 Uruguayan Municipal Elections
Uruguay held local government elections on September 27, 2020, to elect the ''intendente'' of the 19 departments that are the administrative divisions of Uruguay, as well as 31 councilors; and a mayor and four councilors for each of the municipalities. Across the country, 19 intendants, 589 ediles, 125 mayors and 500 councilors will be elected. This will be the second time that both ''intendentes'' and ''alcaldes'' are elected simultaneously. Initially, the election was to be held on May 10, however, in March 2020 all the political parties that made up the General Assembly, the Electoral Court and Vice President Beatriz Argimón, in a joint decision, agreed to postpone for the only time for Sunday, September 27, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. Ana Carolina Cosse Garrido (born December 25, 1962) is a Uruguayan engineer and politician of the Broad Front coalition, serving as Intendant of Montevideo since November 27, 2020. She served as Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining from 2015 to 2019, during the second administration of Tabaré Vázquez. The Movement of Popular Participation ( es, Movimiento de Participación Popular) is a Uruguayan political party. It is a member organisation of the left-wing Broad Front coalition. Background From 1985 onwards, after the end of the military dictatorship and the amnesty that freed those Tupamaros imprisoned during the regime, there was debate among different factions within the Tupamaros about whether or not to participate in the legal political system.
