2024 Summer Paralympics Medal Table
The medal table of the 2024 Summer Paralympics ranks the participating National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) by the number of gold medals that were won by their athletes during the competition. The 2024 Paralympics was the seventeenth Games to be held, a quadrennial competition open to athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities. The games were held in Paris, France from 28 August to 8 September 2024. There were 549 medal events. Mauritius, Nepal and the Refugee Paralympic Team won their first Paralympic medals. As of 2024, Nepal has not yet won an Olympic medal. Judo, table tennis and taekwondo awarded two bronze medals per discipline - the table tennis to losing semi-finalists, and the two combat sports by a repechage system whereby defeated athletes up to the semi-final stage rejoin competition for a bronze medal. Tony Estanguet
Tony Estanguet (; born 6 May 1978 in Pau) is a French slalom canoeist and a three-time Olympic champion in C1 (canoe single). He competed at the international level from 1994 to 2012. He successfully led Paris's bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics and served as the head of the organising committee for those games. Racing career Estanguet won three Olympic gold medals in the C1 event in 2000, 2004 and 2012. At the 2004 games in Athens he won the gold medal after a late judges decision to award a 2-second penalty to Michal Martikán, for which he was promoted to the rank of Commander in the , having been inducted as a ('Knight') in the order in 2000. A podium sweep is where a team or nation comes in first, second and third, such as at the Olympics, and wins all available medals, which are recognized by a podium ceremony. The word sweep is commonly used in North American sports such as baseball, basketball, cricket and ice hockey which have playoff or regular season series, to describe a situation where one team wins all the games in a series, for example, with a 4–0 victory in a best-of-seven series. The term is also used in a broader sense when a country, team or athlete wins all possible prizes in a competition. Athletics at the 2024 Summer Paralympics was held at the Stade de France and Les Invalides in Paris. There were 164 events: 90 for men, 73 for women and one mixed event, three fewer men's events than the previous Games while the women's and mixed events remain the same. Louis Braille ( ; ; 4 January 1809 – 6 January 1852) was a French educator and the inventor of a reading and writing system named after him, braille, intended for use by visually impaired people. His system is used worldwide and remains virtually unchanged to this day. Braille was blinded in one eye at the age of three. This occurred as a result from an accident with a stitching awl in his father's harness making shop. Consequently, an infection set in and spread to both eyes, resulting in total blindness. At that time, there were not many resources in place for the blind, but he nevertheless excelled in his education and received a scholarship to France's Royal Institute for Blind Youth.
