2024 Scottish Conservatives Leadership Election
The 2024 Scottish Conservatives leadership election took place on 27 September 2024 after Douglas Ross (Scottish politician), Douglas Ross announced his resignation on 10 June. Russell Findlay won the election and became Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party. Background The MSP Douglas Ross (Scottish politician), Douglas Ross was elected leader of the Scottish Conservatives unopposed in August 2020 after his predecessor Jackson Carlaw resigned. In the 2021 Scottish Parliament election the Conservatives remained the second largest party with the same number of MSPs as at the previous election. Ross was elected as an MSP, having already been an MP. He kept both jobs, donating his MSP salary to charity. Ruth Davidson
Ruth Elizabeth Davidson, Baroness Davidson of Lundin Links (born 10 November 1978), is a Scottish politician who served as Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party from 2011 to 2019 and Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party in the Scottish Parliament from 2020 to 2021. She served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow from 2011 to 2016 and for Edinburgh Central from 2016 to 2021. Born in Edinburgh, Davidson was raised in Selkirk and later attended Buckhaven High School in Fife. Miles Edward Frank Briggs (born 30 March 1983) is a British politician of the Scottish Conservative, who has served as a regional list Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Lothian region since the 2016 Scottish Parliament election. Liz Smith (politician)
Elizabeth Jane Smith (born 27 February 1960) is a Scottish politician who has been Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Mid Scotland and Fife since 2007. A member of the Scottish Conservative Party, she has served as Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Economy since 2021. Before entering parliament, Smith was a schoolteacher and political researcher, as well as an amateur sportswoman, representing the Scottish women's cricket team. 2011 Scottish Conservatives Leadership Election
The 2011 Scottish Conservatives leadership election was an internal party election to choose a new leader of the Scottish Conservatives, who at the time were the third-largest political party in the devolved Scottish Parliament. Ruth Davidson was declared the winner of the contest on 4 November 2011 and succeeded Annabel Goldie. The election was triggered when incumbent party leader Annabel Goldie resigned her position on 9 May 2011, after her party's self-described 'disappointing' result in the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, where the Conservatives were reduced from 17 seats to 15. LGBT Youth Scotland
LGBT Youth Scotland is a Scottish youth organisation dedicated to the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people from 13 to 25 year of age in Scotland.
