2024 Quebec Tankard
The 2024 Hardline Quebec Tankard, the provincial men's curling championship of Quebec, was held from January 23 to 28 at the Centre Marcel-Dionne in Drummondville, Quebec. The winning Jean-Michel Arsenault rink will represent Quebec at the 2024 Montana's Brier in Regina, Saskatchewan. The event was held in conjunction with the 2024 Quebec Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship. Drummondville, Quebec
Drummondville is a city in the Centre-du-Québec region of Quebec, located east of Montreal on the Saint-François River. The population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 79,258. The mayor of Drummondville is Stéphanie Lacoste. Drummondville is the seat of Drummond Regional County Municipality, and of the judicial district of Drummond. History Drummondville was founded in June 1815 by Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Heriot. The purpose of the town was to provide a home for British soldiers in the War of 1812, and to guard the Saint-François (St Francis) River against American attacks. The town was named after Sir Gordon Drummond, the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada between 1813 and 1816. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Pierre G. "The Duffer" Charette (born June 23, 1955) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa, Ontario. He currently coaches the Silvana Tirinzoni rink Career Born in Masson, Quebec, Charette has played in thirteen Briers, and was the first curler to have played every position (including alternate) at a Brier. He skipped teams in 1989, 1993 and 2007; played third for Guy Hemmings in 1998 and 1999, played second for Don Westphal in 1997, played lead for Westphal in 1996 and was the alternate for Kevin Adams in 1991, Ted Butler in 1992 and Jean-Michel Ménard in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. Charette's best performance at the Brier was the two years he played for Hemmings, where they lost in the Brier final on both occasions. Jean-François "J-F" Trépanier (born February 20, 1987) is a Canadian curler from Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois, Quebec. He currently plays lead on Team Félix Asselin. Career Trépanier began playing with the Mike Fournier rink with Félix Asselin at third and William Dion at second for the 2017–18 season. He previously played for Denis Robichaud, Simon Hebert and Guy Hemmings. In their first season together, Team Fournier won the 2018 WFG Tankard. The team qualified for the playoffs as the fourth seed and won three straight games to claim the provincial title. At the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier, they finished 3–5 record, finishing in tenth place. Émile Asselin (born November 15, 1996) is a Canadian curler from Montreal, Quebec. He currently plays second on Team Félix Asselin. Career Playing lead for his brother Félix Asselin, Émile won back-to-back Quebec Junior Curling Championships in 2015 and 2016. The team had a strong showing at the 2015 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, qualifying for the championship pool with a 6–0 record. They then went 1–3 in the championship pool, qualifying for the tiebreaker. Team Asselin defeated Alberta in the tiebreaker before losing to Saskatchewan in the second, ultimately being eliminated. The team just missed the playoffs the following season, finishing tied for fourth place with a 6–4 record. Martin Crête
Martin Crête (born March 12, 1985) is a Canadian curler from Lévis, Quebec. He was the long time third for Jean-Michel Ménard from 2007 to 2018. Career Crête played as a competitive junior skip near the beginning of his career, finishing as the runner-up at the 2002 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and in third place at the 2003 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. He also skipped Team Quebec at the 2004, 2005, and 2006 Canadian Junior Championships, finishing sixth, fourth, and fourth, respectively. He also competed in the 2006 Quebec men's provincial championship, finishing tied for fifth after a loss to Pierre Charette in the playoffs. Robert Desjardins (born March 16, 1970) is a Canadian curler from Chicoutimi, Quebec. He is a two-time Quebec provincial champion and a Canadian mixed doubles champion. Career Desjardins skipped a team at the 2010 Quebec provincials, but finished outside of the playoffs. The next year, Desjardins played as third for François Gagné, and finished fourth in the 2011 Quebec provincials after round robin play. They then upset the top two teams, skipped by Serge Reid and Jean-Michel Ménard, to win their first provincial championship and Brier appearance. They finished in tenth place at the Brier with a 3–8 win–loss record.
