2024 Ohio State University Pro-Palestinian Campus Protests
A series of protests at Ohio State University by pro-Palestinian demonstrators occurred on-campus in response to the Gaza war, Israel-Palestine conflict beginning on October 7, 2023. A solidarity encampment was constructed on OSU's South Oval on April 25, 2024, during which there were at least 36 arrests, making for the largest en masse arrests on campus since the Ohio_State_University#Vietnam_War_protests_(1969-1970), 1969–1970 Vietnam War protests. The protester demands of OSU include "Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, financial divestment, academic boycott, financial disclosure, acknowledging the genocide, and ending targeted policing". A counter-protest (also spelled counterprotest) is a protest action which takes place within the proximity of an ideologically opposite protest. The purposes of counter-protests can range from merely voicing opposition to the objective of the other protest to actively drawing attention from nearby media outlets away from the other protest toward the counter-protestors' cause to actively seeking to disrupt the other protest by Group conflict, conflict of a non-violent or violent nature. The Lantern
''The Lantern'' is an independent daily newspaper in Columbus, Ohio, published by students at Ohio State University. It is one of the largest campus newspapers in the United States, reaching a circulation of 15,000. Copies of the paper are free and available on campus and throughout Columbus. Editions are published in print Tuesday and Thursday with online content published Wednesdays and Fridays. It does not print in the summer but provides original online content.
