The 2024 Michigan Panthers season was the third season for the Michigan Panthers (2022), Michigan Panthers as a professional American football franchise (sports), franchise and their first as part of the United Football League (2024), United Football League. The Panthers played their home games at the Ford Field and were led by head coach Mike Nolan. With a 22–9 victory over the 2024 DC Defenders season, DC Defenders in Week 7, the Panthers surpassed their win total from last season with five wins. Previous season The Panthers finished the previous season with a 4–6 record. They would make the USFL playoffs, where they were eliminated by the Pittsburgh Maulers in the North Division finals. The 2023 USFL season, 2023 season was the Michigan Panthers (2022), Michigan Panthers second season in the United States Football League (2022), United States Football League (USFL), their first playing at Ford Field and their first under head coach/General manager (American football), general manager tandem of Mike Nolan and Steve Kazor. They improved upon their 2–8 record from the 2022 Michigan Panthers season, previous season and reached the playoffs where they lost to the 2023 Pittsburgh Maulers season, Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL North Division Championship Game in overtime. Jake Bates (born March 3, 1999) is an American professional football placekicker for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college soccer for the Central Arkansas Bears and college football for the Texas State Bobcats and Arkansas Razorbacks. Bates holds the record for the longest field goal in United Football League history, 64 yards. College career Bates played two seasons of college soccer at Central Arkansas in 2017 and 2018, before transferring to play college football at Texas State in 2020 where he only handled kickoffs. Marcell Ligon Ateman (born September 16, 1994) is an American professional football wide receiver. He played college football at Oklahoma State. Early life Ateman attended Wylie East High School in Wylie, Texas. As a senior, he had 84 receptions for 1,584 yards and 27 touchdowns. He committed to Oklahoma State University to play college football. College career Ateman played at Oklahoma State from 2013 to 2017. As a true freshman, he played in all 13 games, recording 22 receptions for 276 yards. As a sophomore, he had 20 receptions for 268 yards. Matthew Colburn II (born July 27, 1997) is an American professional football running back for the Michigan Panthers of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at Wake Forest. Early life and education Colburn was born on July 27, 1997, and grew up in Irmo, South Carolina. He attended Dutch Fork High School and set schools records as a junior with 2,448 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. Andre Eric Szmyt (born September 26, 1998) is an American professional football placekicker. He played college football for the Syracuse Orange. College career Szmyt redshirted his true freshman year in 2017. In 2018, Szmyt became the first Syracuse kicker and third freshman to win the Lou Groza Award, and was named a unanimous All-American. Jonathan Duane "Jake" Butt (born July 11, 1995) is an American former professional football player who was a tight end for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL).
